Hello friends from SAS Julefly,

Autumn is here, and the new school year is already underway. New year has
also begun at ——, as we follow the same
rhythm as the school year. From June to August, we held children's summer
camps in ——, and from the last week of August, our center reopened and
children came back to day centre. The day centre is now in full swing, and
more and more children are coming to live with us.

We are very grateful that you think of —— children and have supported
our summer camp activities with 2200 EUR (03.06.24) and sent us 2000 EUR for
school supplies. Summer camps we have had, and I write about them below. At
the beginning of September we gave out school things but most of the school
things we give out throughout the year when children run out of something or
lack something altogether. Thank you for helping the children and making
their lives better.

In 2024 summer, we were able to offer children 4 summer camps with the
length of 10 days. All the camps came to be thanks to our friends and
supporters. 10-day camps in —— are essential. When school year is on, we help children with
acquiring academical education, but when school year finishes and summer
starts the 10-day camps become the basis of different kind of learning.
We use work and adventure philosophy that means children learn different
practical skills that they can also use in later life. In addition to that,
children learn about themselves and their friends, as well as how to behave
well socially, etc. Added to the above, it is very important to teach
children how to rest and play. As an adult while you need to work, you also
need to take time for rest and play to stay healthy and to be able to work.
This again is the knowledge that they need for their future adult life. So,
in our camps different work tasks are mixed with active rest, outings, play
and evening gatherings with talks. In every camp God's word is present with
appropriate/suitable discussion. This year we continued with waste sorting
in camps and taught it to the new children. This is one way we help raise
children's environmental awareness. Regardless of children's age swimming is
very important and all camp shifts went swimming several times.

Total of 45 children (39 different children) were able to take part of
—— summer camps. Our first summer camp started at the end of June. This
camp came to be a mixed camp of our smallest boys and girls. Camp was very
active with different handicraft activities like (making key chains,
painting collected stones from nature, drawing and modeling clay). Children
absolutely loved those activities. Of course they got to learn to mow the
lawn, clean their rooms, houses and wash dishes after meals. They also had
their personal with tasks setting the table. They had very nice outings and
got to go swimming a lot. Children also learned to pick wild berries. Sadly,
this camp was cut short, as a virus found its way to the camp. Our educators
gave their best, but after 2 educators and 3 children were strongly affected
by the virus and more children showed signs of being affected, they finished
the camp on the 6th day. But even now asking the educators and the children,
how the camp went, and did they liked it, we get the answer 'yes'.

Our second camp was without a cook, this ment children also took part in
actual food preparations and cooking in addition to setting the table and
cleaning the dishes after themselves. They peeled potatoes, chopped onions,
grated carrots etc. Children cooked soup and other foods they later ate. In
addition to their usual tasks of mowing the lawn, cleaning the surroundings
and rooms, they also had the possibility to put gravel on the camp road to
fill some holes. In this camp shift children learned how to better interact,
to talk about problems, how to help others, negotiate and when needed to
bargain. For the rest and play part this camp shift had outings to
—— and ——, they went fishing and the caught fish they gave to
the cats in the shelter they went to visit. They also had a cliff hike and
camped in the nature. Our educators found out that children really liked to
put up tents and enjoyed spending the night in the nature. They greatly
enjoyed learning to cook food like porridge on the fire, to sing and dance
around the bonfire.

The third camp came out to be girls camp. All liked the idea to being in
female company; doing and talking about things that girls are interested in.
And all the girls were big enough that they were able to help with
everything in the camp. They started their mornings with morning exercise.
There was a lot of interaction and psychological training about controlling
their emotions and moods, how to interact in big collectives with the help
of our educator who is also psychologist. There were active sport's games,
board games, henna painting and jewelry making, hike in the nature with an
overnight stay, swimming breaks, water fight and outings to visit a church,
a bog, cat shelter and —— bigger towns.

Our last and fourth camp was a mixed by age and gender, but the smallest
were in the first camp. Some trees were taken down at the time of this camp
and children were very good helpers. They collected branches for about an
hour on two days. This camp organized a children's concert with their
performances, it was lovely. Also they had a bonfire night, a movie night,
pizza workshop, many games, picnic, they built a hut. They had the
opportunity to visit a zoo.
They picked wild berries and cooked jam from it. That jam was later used to
eat pancakes with. Children also learned to carry out tasks that were age
appropriate; how to be and act politely and be more considerate with peers,
in shops and in other organizations.

In July to August, separately from summer camps, we also had 5 one day
outings to the nature and different towns/places; and 3 two-day camping
events, one of them was on bicycles. A total of 17 different youth and
children took part in it. 3 youth were our 18-year-olds, who do not go to
our summer camps anymore.
In conclusion we thank the God and all our good friends and supporters for
making this all possible and helping children to learn so many things over
the 10 days that they got to be in the camp. It was very educational and
restful event for the children, while they were taken care of by ——
workers.
