Den chilenska vulkanen Calbuco har fått ett utbrott i onsdags 23 april 2015, vilket ställer till det för flygtrafiken i Chile och Argentina.

International airlines that fly into Santiago contacted by Reuters said they were monitoring the situation but flights were unaffected.

In Argentina, Bariloche and Neuquen airports were shut, with Bariloche - which TV pictures showed covered in grey ash - due to be closed Friday too. Flights by LATAM Airlines' local arm LAN Argentina and state-owned Aerolineas Argentinas were affected.

LAN Chile had cancelled over 20 domestic flights since the eruption but said on Thursday afternoon that owing to an improvement in conditions as the ash dissipated, it was resuming a normal schedule.

AVIATION UNION'S STRIKE THREAT'S IMPACT ON FINNAIR FLIGHTS 7 AND 8 MAY, 2015

Finnish Aviation Union has issued a strike warning for May 7 and 8, 2015. The possible strike relates to a dispute between unions, and Finnair is in no way party to this dispute. If implemented, the FAU strike would clearly impact Finnair flight operations and some flights would be cancelled. At this point we are unable to estimate what the impacts would be.

To minimize the inconvenience to our customers, Finnair offers below flexibility to customers to change flights once free of charge:
  • Original travel dates are 7 or 8 May, 2015
  • New travel dates are between 1 May and 31 May (excluding 7 and 8 May, 2015)
  • Ticket can also be changed to another Finnair operated destination. In that case higher fare difference will be charged, lower fare difference will not be refunded.
You may change the travel date by calling to Finnair Customer Service or to your Travel Agent.

At the moment no flights have been cancelled due to the strike threat. If we have to cancel any of our flights next week, we do our best to contact the passengers on the flights affected directly. Please check from Manage booking that we have your current contact information. If the flight is cancelled, you will get a refund of your ticket. We will also do our best to reroute passengers to their destination.

We are sorry for the inconvenience the situation may cause to our customers. We are following the situation and will update any new information on the beginning of next week.

FINNISH AVIATION UNION'S STRIKE THREAT POSTPONED BY TWO WEEKS
4 May 2015

The Finnish Aviation Union has told that it is postponing the support strike that would impact Finnair and Finnair's subcontractors to May 19-20, 2015. Finnair is not a party to the dispute behind the strike threat. If implemented, this support strike would have considerable impacts on Finnair traffic

Finnair hopes that the parties to the dispute reach an agreement and the strike would be avoided. If the strike threat is not removed, Finnair will inform its customers about the possible alternatives to reschedule their flights and other preparations on May 12.
