Notably, the short Par-3 11th hole will be introduced for the first time since 1913. The three previous U.S. Opens conducted at the club were all decided in 18-hole playoffs – won in 1913 by local amateur Francis Ouimet, in 1963 by Julius Boros, and in 1988 by Curtis Strange. The venue also hosted the 1999 Ryder Cup, won by the USA 141/2 to 131/2 and notoriously known as the “Battle of Brookline” for the raucous heckling and abuse of European players by the U.S spectators. Jon Rahm of Spain won the last U.S. Open, beating South African Louis Oosthuizen by a single shot. Winners of the U.S. Open are automatically invited to play in the other three majors (The Masters, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship) for the next five years.

The 18th-hole is a 590-metre Par-5 with an island green, playing a significant role in determining the champion each year. Brittany Linicome's eagle on the 72nd hole of the 2009 championship is the only time in history that a male or female playing a major has won on the final hole with an eagle. Since 1988, the tournament's victor traditionally celebrates by jumping in "Poppies Pond" surrounding the 18th green. June 23 – 26, 2022
The Women’s PGA Championship is the third of five LPGA majors and is viewed as one of golf’s most prestigious events with a purse of $4.5 million, from which the champion receives $675,000. The 2022 PGA Championship will be played at Congressional Country Club in Maryland. Opened in 1924 by President Calvin Coolidge, the club was fashioned after congress members felt the need for a club where members of Congress could meet socially with businessmen. Indeed, the club has a rich history of Presidents becoming members or visiting; most recently, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have all visited. The Women’s PGA is open only to professional players; however, this was controversially revoked in 2005 to allow 15-year-old amateur Michelle Wie to compete. She went on to become runner-up that year, and in 2006 the LPGA Championship reverted back to professional only status. By that time, Wie had secured lucrative sponsorship deals and professional status. Nelly Korda of the USA is the current champion.

The Women’s Open Championship 2022
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Muirfield, East Lothian, Scotland.
August 4 – 7, 2022
First played at Fulford in 1976, the Women’s Open Championship has become one of the most prestigious events on the women’s golfing calendar. Played over all types of British golf courses, the Women’s Open has not adopted a links-only policy, increasing potential venues. This year’s event will be held for the first time at Muirfield, home to The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers – the oldest verifiable organised golf club in the world with club records dating back as far as 1744. The 6,625 metre Par-71 Muirfield course has an unusual layout for a links course. Arranged in two loops of nine holes, one clockwise and one anticlockwise, means virtually every hole has a different wind direction from the tee if the wind remains in a constant direction throughout. The 2021 Women’s Open, held at Carnoustie, was won by Anna Nordqvist of Sweden and marked the 21st playing of the event as a major on the women’s circuit.
