Villa Spalletti Trivelli

Villa Spalletti Trivelli
In the early 1900s, the widow of Italy’s Count Spalletti, Gabrielle Rasponi, built this stunning villa as a Roman home for her family. Rasponi created one of the most inspired palazzos in Rome – filling it with antiques, books and nurturing a delightful garden. After a two-year conversion, in 2006, the property was opened as a 15-bedroom luxury hotel. Located close to the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Colosseum, the hotel is central. The guestrooms are tastefully decorated – classically designed but with contemporary amenities. Unusually, the minibar is complimentary. The hotel retains the Villa Spalletti Trivelli Wellness Centre – complete with hammam and fitness area. The rooftop is a sensation – and includes a bar, seating area and Jacuzzi. With so many award-winning restaurants in the area, the hotel does not focus on its cuisine, but delicious fare is served at Papier Peints and Sala del Camino. The Villa boasts its own winery in Perugia – where wonderful olive oil and wine is produced. Villa Spalletti Trivelli is famous for its superlative, flawless service – arguably the best in Rome.

Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel

Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
The Cavalieri has one drawback - its located 8 kilometres from the centre of Rome. However, in season, there are hourly, complimentary shuttles into the centre of the Eternal City which is of some consolation to hotel guests. Apart from that issue, the hotel is truly remarkable in every way. Firstly, it boasts the only 3 Michelin-starred restaurant in Rome – La Pergola – which has been part of the masterchef Heinz Beck’s empire since 1994. Then there are hundreds of amazing works of art dotted around the property including the Tiepolo’s triptych at reception and the Dollar series by Andy Warhol. The 370 rooms and suites are fantastic. Although the main building itself is of the 1960s – the interiors could be from the Palace of Versailles. They are outrageous – gold & gilt adorned bedrooms and marble-clad bathrooms with Ferregamo toiletries. The hotel sits in 15 acres of lush garden and the Grand Spa Club is one of the finest in Italy. For a fee – even for hotel guests – you have use of 4 swimming pools – including one for children. There is a superb set of treatment rooms, a sizeable fitness centre and tennis courts. The Cavalieri is more a city resort than a hotel and for frequent visitors to Rome, ideal.
