Opened in 1994, the Ritz-Carlton managed Hotel Arts Barcelona is still one of the finest properties in Europe. The hotel has 483 rooms and suites, a two Michelin starred restaurant – Enoteca, spa and boasts a fantastic Frank Gehry sculpture – Fish – that sits in the hotel’s verdant gardens and next to its outdoor swimming pool. The Arts is located in one of the city’s two tallest buildings and on one of the most beautiful stretches of Barcelona beach. The views of the Mediterranean or the city from the Arts are unparalleled. The building is 154 metres tall (505 feet) and the hotel occupies all 44 floors of it. 43 Spa as its name suggest is found on the hotel’s 43rd floor. The Hotel Arts Barcelona offers superb service and fantastic facilities.
Monument Hotel – 9/10
The Monument started life as a 19th century palazzo and is now one of Spain’s most celebrated hotels. The hotel is home to Lasarte – the three Michelin starred Martín Berasategui restaurant and also the single star Restaurant Oria – it is the only hotel in the country to hold four Michelin stars. The quality of the hotel matches that of its restaurants. There are just 84 rooms and suites – beautifully appointed and boasting Jo Malone amenities. The Monument Hotel also features the Valmont Wellness Centre – essentially the spa – and an outdoor swimming pool. The hotel is located on the fashionable Passeig de Gràcia - close to the Gaudí spectacle – Casa Battló.

Opened in 2009, the Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona is one of the city’s most luxurious hotels and indeed, fashionable addresses. This very much luxury lifestyle hotel that offers 219 rooms and 40 suites and sits within the Torre Catalunya (Catalan Tower) – which is 80 metres tall (262 feet) and has 25 floors. The hotel boasts superb views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. The main draw to the Nobu Hotel Barcelona is the restaurant – Nobu - founded by the king of Japanese fusion cuisine - star chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa. The other restaurants within the hotel are the Nobu Sake Bar offering tapas & sake and Kozara that offers small plates. The Nobu Hotel group was founded by the Chef, actor Robert de Niro and film producer Meir Teper. The rooms and suites are sleek, smart, and minimal with decidedly Japanese accents. Claris Hotel & Spa - 8/10
Built as a stately home in 1883, the Vedruna Palace was transformed into the Claris Hotel & Spa in 1992. The hotel is located in the centre of Barcelona - close to two of architect Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces – La Pedrera and Casa Batlló. The Claris features 124 rooms & suites – beautifully appointed and artistic. The owner of the Derby Hotels Collection – of which the Claris is the flagship – has a penchant for antiquities. The hotel is peppered with Hindu, Roman and pre-Colombian artefacts. Indeed, the hotel boasts its own museum dedicated to treasures from the pre-Colombian era. In 2015 - the former headquarters of the Association of Cotton House Manufacturers – a 19th century neoclassical building – reopened as the Cotton House Hotel. This boutique property features 83 guestrooms including 5 stunning suites. The hotel’s lobby is one of the most dramatic in the city with two amazing staircases. One is grand and marble and the other grand and spiral - built in 1957. The Cotton House boasts a library, a 300 square metre terrace, a glass conservatory and L’Atelier where guests can order tailored-made shirts. On the sixth floor of the hotel are a swimming pool, gym and small but sweet, spa. The concierge desk has been renamed the Gossypium from where gossyps help guests with their requests.
Majestic Hotel & Spa - 8/10
Equidistant from Gaudí masterpieces Casa Batlló and Pedrera – on the Passeig de Gràcia - sits the regal Majestic Hotel & Spa. Although it features 226 rooms and 46 suites, the Majestic is revered in the city for its superb service. The hotel was opened in 1918 and boasts a plethora of facilities. Highlights of the hotel include the rooftop swimming pool, spa, gym, and the Dolce Vitae bar – a delightful locale to sip a stem of Champagne and lookout over Barcelona. The main building dates to Medieval times and one section of the city’s Roman wall is an integral part of the Mercer’s structure. The hotel offers just 28 luxury rooms & suites each stylish and filled with character. The interior designer studio Moneo Brock perfectly captured the essence of the Mercer brand – contemporary but sympathetic to its historical surrounds. The hotel has a small plunge pool atop the decked rooftop. The Mercer Restaurant which overlooks the Orange Tree (inner) Courtyard offers fresh, local Catalan cuisine from the playbook of Chef Xavier Lahuerta. Le Bouchon is a gastrobar and the rooftop Terrace is an ideal locale to sip cocktails in the summer.
W Barcelona - 7/10
Due to its nautical shape – its known locally as Hotel Vela, the Sail Hotel – the W is situated on a peninsula jutting into the Mediterranean Sea. The W is a luxury lifestyle brand owned by Marriot. The W Barcelona was opened in 2009, sits on 7 hectares of land and the building is just under 100 metres tall. The hotel has 473 rooms including 67 suites, a spa, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, a recording studio, a rooftop bar, and a restaurant La Barra – complete with cuisine designed by Michelin-starred chef, Carles Abellán.
