Waldorf Astoria debuts the first Zuma restaurant in Maldives
Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi has elevated its already impressive culinary landscape with the debut of Zuma Maldives, the world’s first overwater outpost of the acclaimed Japanese izakaya concept.
Perched above the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean, Zuma Maldives delivers a sophisticated interpretation of izakaya dining, blending contemporary Japanese cuisine with panoramic sea vistas. The restaurant’s design is a celebration of Maldivian craftsmanship, featuring a striking entrance of timber, granite, and ambient lighting that seamlessly connects the indoors with the breathtaking island scenery.
The vibrant venue encompasses a dramatic island bar, an open robata grill, a dedicated sushi counter, and a spacious main kitchen, each contributing to a dynamic, immersive dining experience. Signature dishes reflect Zuma’s global reputation, prepared with precision and artistry using the freshest local and imported ingredients.
Guests can explore the à la carte menu, which showcases highlights from Zuma’s three distinct kitchens. The menu, designed for sharing in true izakaya style, features standout plates such as seabass sashimi with yuzu and truffle oil, robata-grilled lobster with shiso ponzu butter, and spicy beef tenderloin with sesame, chili, and a sweet soy glaze.
The dedicated lounge and bar offer a curated selection of premium sake, rare wines, and innovative cocktails—think the lychee rose petal martini, Zuma colada, and the chili passion fruit margarita—crafted by expert mixologists to complement the culinary journey.
Founded in London in 2002 by Rainer Becker and Arjun Waney, Zuma has expanded to over 20 iconic cities worldwide, including New York, Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Miami, Madrid, Las Vegas, Rome, Abu Dhabi, Boston, and Bangkok.
