One of the world’s most prestigious hotels, The Dorchester in London’s Mayfair, is to unveil the first completed stages of a sweeping transformation in early September 2022.
Working with award-winning French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, the hotel entrance, The Promenade, and the guest rooms and suites are receiving a rejuvenating refurbishment. Also, the new Cake & Flowers boutique is being created by Rochon, with an entrance on the Deanery Street corner of the hotel. Feature windows will showcase the masterful delights created by the in-house designer florist Philip Hammond and executive pastry chef Michael Kwan. You can buy enticing gifts - including gorgeous hampers, beautiful bouquets, Champagnes, artisan chocolates, pastries, and cakes.
True to its illustrious history in the vibrant heart of London, The Dorchester will embrace its future with the same sophisticated style with which it has become synonymous. New lighting will accentuate the hotel’s famous façade. Guests will experience an enhanced forecourt with a delightfully landscaped garden beneath the renowned London Plane tree. Striking green granite flooring leads to an open lobby flooded with natural light and featuring two imposing new artworks.
Beyond the lobby, The Promenade will serve as an exquisite sense of arrival, designed to draw clientele into a diverse culinary experience, including The Dorchester’s afternoon tea. Towards the end of The Promenade, a glamorous new destination, will host fun evenings filled with Champagne, seafood and entertainment. The Promenade will feature a unique collection of contemporary art by British artists, evoking the sensation of nature and the British landscape.
Elegantly transformed rooms and suites offer contemporary soft colour palettes inspired by an English garden and feature enduring hues of pale leaf greens, rose pinks, heather blues, and lemon yellows. Introducing new signature and junior suites will provide guests with a spacious, more residential accommodation style.
Renowned interior designer Martin Brudnizki is transforming the bar area into a celebration of the roaring thirties, featuring a 1930s Palladium leaf ceiling and a cosy snug. A series of original drawings and celebrity photography by Cecil Beaton will combine with the works of contemporary artists to remind guests of this glamorous bygone decade. The new bar layout allows for a dedicated Park Lane entrance and an outside terrace with views overlooking Hyde Park.
The hotel remains open to guests during the renovation works, with afternoon tea served in the Orchid Room. The Grill, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, and China Tang remain available as usual, as does the Dorchester Spa.
The Dorchester, London is the flagship for the Dorchester Collection. The hotel has been welcoming guests since 1931 but over the years, the property has undergone several refurbishments to ensure that it moves with the times.
