Soneva brings the Maldives in to your home with Virtual Reality

The luxury hotel brand Soneva has – once again – raced ahead of the competition by launching a VR experience as a way of connecting to its fans and indeed future guests. In a pioneering move, luxury travellers who are missing the Maldives – and Soneva Fushi - will be able to walk the resort’s beaches, swim in the sea and walk in the jungle – albeit from their living rooms.

Soneva’s CEO and founder, Sonu Shivdasani – the legendary hotelier who created the concept of “barefoot luxury” in the mid-1990s - said “with many international travellers restricted from visiting the Maldives in person during the pandemic, it felt imperative to create new ways of engaging with audiences … technology in tourism has increased rapidly over the last decade, and this became an exciting opportunity for us to modernise beyond on-property considerations.”

The VR series shares Soneva’s ethos - Slow Life - while showcasing the beauty of the Maldives. The video series focuses on the resort’s history, accommodations, yacht, and children’s play areas but the Complete Resort Tour also takes in the white fine sandy beaches, lush tropical forest, and the azure sea that the Maldives is so famous for.
