Over sixty years ago, the late American entrepreneur Jay Pritzker opened his first Hyatt hotel in Los Angeles. The international hotel and resorts group has just opened its 1,000th property – the Alila Napa Valley. Part of its Alila brand, the 68-guestroom hotel is located deep in wine country and is surrounded by the vineyards of the Beringer Estate Winery.
This boutique hotel features the Acacia Room restaurant, bar, outdoor swimming pool and Spa Alila and Fitness Centre. Napa is home to some of the most famous wineries in the world including Opus One and Screaming Eagle.
No visit to the Alila would be complete without a visit – and indeed sampling session – in a local winery.
Alila is a short distance from the city of St. Helena – nicknamed “Napa Valley’s Main Street” – which is filled with delightful restaurants, artisan producers and wine shops, of course.
Napa Valley boasts a clutch of fabulous hotels including Bardessano Hotel and Spa, Auberge de Soleil and the Hotel Yountville – which is just a short distance from Napa’s most famous restaurant – The French Laundry – which holds 3 Michelin-stars for masterchef Thomas Keller.
Reservations can now also be made at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley - which is due to open in the next few weeks. Again, surrounded by vineyards and with a winery, the resort is located in Calistoga.
While driving through the Napa Valley is great fun, chartering a hot-air balloon to view the valley and the incredible wineries from the air is a magnificent and wonderful experience.
