In one of the most anticipated hotel openings of the year, The Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid is finally welcoming guests through its historic front doors.
At the turn of the 20th century, King Alfonso XIIIth asked the renowned Swiss hotelier César Ritz to build him a great hotel for a great city. Ritz agreed, only to pull out at the genesis of the project for medical reasons. The King built the hotel anyway and it opened in 1910.
The hotel is located in the heart of historical Madrid, at Plaza de la Lealtad 5 – next to the Prado Museum. Mandarin Oriental bought The Ritz, Madrid in 2015 and has spent over USD$100 million on a full refurbishment. It has retained the building’s original Belle Époque features while updating and upgrading every single aspect of the property.
The Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid now boasts 153 rooms – including 53 suites – a heated indoor swimming pool, fitness centre and Spa – which features steam rooms, experience showers and a vitality pool.
There are five restaurants and bars which are overseen by the 3 Michelin-starred masterchef Quique Dacosta. The hotel’s gastronomic restaurant – Deessa – is set to be one of the finest in Madrid.
