A Verified Hotel

This grand dame hotel opened in 1863 and was built by Andrea Pizzala, who created the Galleria De Cristoforis in 1831. Grand Hotel et de Milan has always been a magnet for artists, celebrities, and politicians. With a gothic façade and operatic & artistic interior, this classical hotel has always been at the forefront of the arts. Towards the end of the 19th century, it was the only one in the area to have postal and telegraph services, making it an important place for diplomats to meet. Maestro Giuseppe Verdi was a special guest who lived there for 20 years and wrote “Othello” and then “Falstaff” under this roof. Serving as an “annexe” to La Scala, the hotel has been the inspiration for many performers. The original splendour of the Grand Hotel et de Milan remains the same as in its heyday as a noble, 19th century Milanese residence. Its 72 rooms and 23 suites are full of period furniture with parquet floors and Italian marble within bathrooms.

Named after its most famous patron, the Verdi suite showcases an original period chimney and furniture as well as a bedroom and two bathrooms. Another is named for Maria Meneghini Callas, a loyal guest at the Grand Hotel et de Milan between 1950 and 1952, when she performed in Aida. But the most beautiful of all suites is the Duke and Duchess of Windsor which has hosted the highest officials of the Italian State during their institutional visits to Milan. The Caruso restaurant features big Corinthian columns with two Murano chandeliers dating back to the 1920s. It is a wonderful space to eat Italian, while The Don Carlos pays tribute to Verdi. Food is prepared by Mauro Moia under the light of its antique silver chandeliers.
