Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris

Review of Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris review by Varun Sharma

Situated in one of the most aesthetic and fashionable parts of the city, The Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris opened to overwhelming fanfare in December 1999. It boasts 244 rooms & suites, five Michelin-stars spread over its three restaurants (the most of any hotel in Europe), a Spa, indoor swimming pool, ballrooms, and meeting spaces.

Following an extensive & expensive two-year renovation, the George V started a luxury hospitality revolution in the City of Light – so much so that many of the other grand dame hotels underwent their own renovations to match the Four Seasons standard. rates the The Four Seasons Hotel George V as one of the best city hotels in the world.

The hotel is situated in the city’s 8th arrondissement – known locally as the huitième – and is a few minutes walk to both the historic Champs d’Elysees and River Seine. Avenue George V is itself peaceful, save for the occasional roar from the engine of a passing supercar.  The hotel is ideally located for shopping trips – the Louis Vuitton Flagship Store is just around the corner – and for sightseeing on foot or by car.

The hotel is located 25 kilometres from Charles de Gaulle Airport and just a short car journey from the Eurostar terminal at Gare du Nord.

The George V offers 185 deluxe guest rooms and 59 suites set over 8 floors.  You will find swathes of marble in the bathrooms and the legendary “Four Seasons bed” will ensure a great night’s sleep. The Louis XVI inspired décor make the rooms feel light and airy while retaining comfort and intimacy. The guestrooms are among the largest in the city. You can choose your view; either of avenue George V or that of the hotel’s inner courtyard.  Guest room sizes start at 50 sq. metres (538 sq. feet) and increase to 245 sq. metres (2630 sq. feet) for the Royal Suite.

For that “once in a lifetime” experience, why not book one of the Four Seasons Signature Suites. One of the most popular is the Penthouse Suite which offers couples privacy and stunning panoramic views of the city - including that of the Eiffel Tour - from a private balcony. For families, a Royal Suite is more appropriate – complete with an oversized living room, multiple beds, steam room and plenty of storage. If you book a Signature Suite you receive perks including complimentary breakfast, complimentary mini-bar (except premium alcohols), complimentary airport limousine meet & greet service and a personal assistant to look after all the details of your stay.

Service & Facilities

The Four Seasons group prides itself on its service. From the joyful moment you arrive at the George V to sad moment you leave, there is always a member of staff on-hand to advise, provide and serve. The Concierge Desk is one of the most accommodating in Paris. It can help you 24/7 with any requests from restaurant bookings to setting up excursions. Valet parking is available. The hotel is extremely family-friendly, provides extra special treats and even offers tailored city tours for the younger ones.

The 1990s refurbishment enhanced the hotel’s leisure facilities and it now boasts a six-treatment room Spa, an indoor heated swimming pool, state of the art fitness centre, hairdressing salon, ballrooms, and Boutique. The Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris is fully wheelchair accessible. The hotel is pet-friendly – although pets are not allowed in any public area serving food.

Built in 1928, this art deco building has been an iconic hotel landmark in the city for nearly a century. Celebrities, politicians, artists, fashionistas, and musicians choose to stay here not only because of the building’s opulence but also for the address – one of the most prestigious in town. Virtually the entire interior of this hotel has been designed by the legendary Pierre-Yves Rochon - who has brought a touch of Versailles to central Paris. Swathes of white marble, gilt gold and gleaming chandeliers have shaped the Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris into a veritable quintessential French palace.

Restaurants & Bars

The George V currently holds three Michelin-stars at Le Cinq – one of the finest haute-cuisine dining experiences in Paris. Chef Christian Le Squer conjures up magical dishes including his signature “big crunchy scampi with citrus emulsion”. The wine list at Le Cinq suits all budgets and one of the most famous sommeliers in the world - Eric Beaumard - is on hand to help you choose.

L’Orangerie holds one Michelin star and offers modern international cuisine with a twist.  Alain Taudon – a student of Le Squer - specialises in seafood and plant-based dishes.

Finally, Le George which also holds one Michelin star, offers modern Mediterranean cuisine. Italian-born Chef Simone Zinoni – a student of Gordon Ramsay – has created a superb menu featuring signature dishes like “Le George V onion tarte tatin with parmesan sorbet”.

Le Bar is a great place to meet for a drink – it exudes class without a hint of pretence.

An à la carte breakfast is served at Le Cinq – although in-room dining is always available.

The Four Seasons Hotel George V has partnered with a local company that collects organic waste from its Michelin starred restaurant – Le George – composts it and uses it to feed the soil at the hotel’s own vegetable garden in Versailles. Guests are invited to visit the garden, choose their preferred ingredients and Chef Simone Zinoni will create a unique dish from them.
