It was probably around 14-15 years ago where I first ran into being marked for a rip-off for a "taxi" ride from ARN. We thought we had been at a regular taxi stand, and maybe we were. We had a lot of luggage but not so much that a regular taxi wouldn't possibly work. One driver pointed us to another driver. We put in the luggage and got in the car and asked the driver what the cost would be. The amount of SEK listed on the window had no relationship to the price and he could get away with it because of the fine print underneath. Fortunately, before driving off, we told him he either agrees to a fixed price or we are out. Negotiated the price down to what I would have expected to pay at JFK + a 50% premium for Sweden for a comparable journey time, but that still was a rip-off and still regret that we didn't unload the vehicle and switch to a regular taxi. I think he actually initially tried to get us to pay a NRT level taxi fare to get into town. After that, I soured on hailing "taxis" on the streets in Sweden and at ARN. It was really sort of a shock to me that I had to be as wary about seeking a ride from an airport or train station in Sweden as in say India and China then. Swedavia/ARN can do better.
