Amex Platinum. Welcome offer / Referral Bonus

Hi, My girlfriend is thinking about applying for an AMEX Platinum mainly for the Priority Pass access, but I tolder her to wait until they have a signup offer, since there are no available right now.

Usually, how good are the signup (welcome) bonus?

What about referral/invitation bonus, does this exist? I have SAS Elite and I know it exists there, but customer service told me I cannot invite someone who wants Platinum if I do not have it.

Best signup was like a year ago or something when you got 1M MR for signing up and keeping card for like 9 months.

The value of MR has been slaughtered since a few months ago so the signup bonus pays much less role now.

Previously it has been possible to invite people to Platinum with a sas branded amex, no idea if they removed that possibility. Just try your link and see what you can chose.

If Priority Pass is the main reason, she should definitely check availability on the airports she plan to travel from. There where no lounges on my last two trips, from Berlin and Paris and I could use SAS business lounge on Arlanda anyway (SAS Plus).

Piority Pass has lounges on more or less all major airports, Berlin is an exception, but instead they offer 23€ credit on Mövenpick cafe so there is an option to get something to eat/drink for free at least. Paris has lounges but not in the terminal where SAS fly from.

This is what my invite URL opened up:

It seems that the "invite offer" for the Platinum is non-existent, since they are advertising one of its generic included benefits as if it was the offer...

Had to check the Mövenpick offer again. Apparently they included that on PP through Amex Platinum now, finally. That wasn't so when i was in Berlin. Good! The thing is to check both airport and terminal for lounge availability.

Not through my invite, since I do not have Amex Platinum, but Amex Elite. Apparently you only get bonus if an Amex Platinum member invites you know.

Ok, if I look at my Amex Elite invite link it says I will get 18k eb points and the invited person 200k MR. If I go through my Plat link it says 200k MR each.

200k MR is not as much as AMEX wants you to believe; less than the monthly fee. just sign up now and take full advantage of the annual dining perks of 4000SEK before 2022 is over. Then another 4000SEK is available when 2023 starts. To me this is the sweetspot of AMEX Platinum: join at a date Where you can maximize the annual dining benefits: october is perfect.

After doing more research on the value of MR I need to correct myself. If you use the MRs to book hotel through AMEX Travel instead of transfering points to airlines or hotel chains the value of 200,000K increases from ca 400-550SEK to ca 1200SEK, almost TWO monthly fees. Might be worth it.
