Air India - Copenhagen to Bengaluru via Delhi

So now on the way home - this time with a bit more time in Delhi Airport, at the Encalm Prive lounge since the Air India lounge is undergoing renovation. It's a big lounge, but here is lots of seats, daylight a small bar serving sparkling wine and cocktails (no Champagne though) and a selection of food. The lounge wifi requires an Indian phone number or some voucher that I would have to pick up so happy for my 3 Världen subscription. Since my flight out of Bengaluru was at 8 am I had booked the last night at Taj Hotel Bengaluru which is 5 minutes from the airport, it was a nice stay there in a super spacious room. Like in the Radisson Blu hotel I stayed in the other nights of the week, the service was indeed very good.

Woke up at 5 AM to go directly to the airport. I wanted to have breakfast there - the car service from the hotel was smooth and the entrance into the airport and security was pretty quick with almost no queue in the domestic departues. There is a fast track for business class. So I had a good amount of time in the Air India domestic lounge to enjoy a bit of breakfast. The entrance to the lounge (via elevator) is shared with another lounge with also paid access so quite a queue of people wanting to get in. It was easy though, as soon as they spotted I had an Air India business class boarding pass I was asked to just go ahead, skip the ordinary queue and go to the lounge.

The lounge is really nice, almost like a small Indian palace - wich nice seating and table service of food and drinks. I really like how they made it look not just like any other airport lounge. Service was super friendly, though it took quite some time to get my toast with scrambled eggs - like 20 minutes. It did not matter a lot as I was not in a hurry and I had drinks served quickly. When time for boarding I went to the boarding gate, again as when I travelled priority boarding was well handled. The airplane pretty much like the one down here, but this one had only two rows of business class that was all occupied. Service and food was again really nice for such a short flight, this time I had to try the curry potatoes - I did enjoy that one. The crew was friendly, also this the cabin service director greeted each passenger in business class and asked about how the flight had been and had time for a small chat too. I did indeed fell very welcomed. Based on the two flights so far domestic with Air India I would they they have a solid product there and I would not at all mind flying it again.

Arrival in Delhi ahead of schedule - again it is a bit confusing that it is needed to exit all the way to arrivals before going up one floor and enter again, this time through emigration and security. It can be a bit confusing first time, but at least now I knew how it worked! Security was a bit chaotic, they want shoes off, all cables out of the luggage, all liquids in a back, and with very small boxes for the scanner it is just a bit fiddly. But again almost no queue so it was ok.

Now i just got 1,5 hours until my flight over to Copenhagen. I will update later how that went.

Jesus, an impressive, inspiring lounge. Make most other lounges looking very sterile! Could learn something from here with local culture and art inspiration

The last leg from Delhi to Copenhagen went well. Same old cabin, this time I was in 2A and only 1 empty seat in the cabin. Compared to the outbound flight this was a level above. Overall crew was better, more present and genuine. This time everybody was offered a "dental kit" which was a toothbrush and toothcream - something I had missed from the amenity kit and/or lavatories on my way out. I am not sure why we were not handed that on the way out, maybe something to ask for if they do not proactively hand it out. Hot towels we offered while still on the ground (I stopped counting, at least five times during the flight they came around with hot towels!) and a welcome drink of either buttermilk or what I thought was water melon juice but think there was beetroot or something of that nature in. It was not to my liking simply, but nothing wrong with the serving. Pyjamas was offered again, surprisingly few wanted it - I took one of course. They are of decent quality indeed, similar to those in Qatar Airways business class (when they have them).

Laurent Perrier champagne again after takeoff with warm nuts. I had the Chicke Tikka Masla for main course, and this was a really good choice. Very nice taste, spicy and well prepared dish, it is clear that they are better at preparing Indian dishes in New Delhi than in Copenhagen! As you can see it the photos the presentation of the food is also much better that it was outbound - plus this time we got the starter served first, then the main dish. I am no big fan of desert but the lovly cabin crew insisted that I tried the special holi-celebration desert they had so I did - it was tasty indeed. Throughout the entire meal service the crew went past all several times to ensure everybody had the drinks they wanted, wine and champagne nicely served from the bottles by the seat rather than poured in the galley.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with this flight, the crew and food held a very high standard in my opinion. The cabin is still dated, but still works OK i think. Once India Airlines get their new business class roll out, and keep the service like on this flight, they will have a really good product. Until then I would still choose them for travel as long as the price is competitive and connection how I want it.

I checked also on the beer @apknug and @Johannes Winberg and @Gus - that was a bit of a letdown to be honest, they had regular Carlsberg or Tuborg as the two only choices, so I took another glass of Champagne. There was a nice brewpub just next to my hotel in Bengaluru though that I can recommend though

Overall conclusion - I enjoyed flying with Air India. I am likely to be going to Bengaluru more later in the year and unless something changes this would be my connection of preference.

Great, Lars. Min erfaring er, at man i business ofte får relativt mere for pengene hvis man accepterer de lidt mindre kendte carriers.I det mindste er det anderledes og kan være spændende

Nu var det min (o)tur att testa Air India från CPH.

Maskinen vi skulle åka med kom in sent till gate C29 vilken man kan se tydligt från Eventyr.
Jag anade att det skulle bli försening vilket redan hade notifierats av AI via WhatsApp och såklart av Tripit.
Denna drogs dock tillbaka ett bra tag innan avgång, första gången för min del med SMS från Tripit där det stod ”PULLED IN”.
Boarding började redan innan planet hade parkerat men jag kände mig ändå manad att gå dit.
Ingen hade ju kollat på mitt pass ännu och när jag väl kom ner så var gaten redan halvfull och jag nekades inträde med digitalt boarding kort.
Desken bredvid fixade pappers-plåtar (varför man nu måste ha det?) och sen fick jag komma in.
Efter en lång väntan i gaten kom vi till slut iväg och landade drygt en timme och tjugo minuter efter tidtabell.

Tripit meddelade att jag hade 1h 18min för att hinna med anslutningen vidare till MAA.
Med klipp i steget tog jag mig igenom immigration, förbi bagagebanden och vid transit desken (där dom som har bagage att re-checka gör det) tog det stopp. Jag skulle tydligen ha nytt boardingkort, vilket de redan hade printat. Istället för att tjafsa så tog jag glatt det nya kortet och begav mig vidare.
Väl framme vid gaten så har de inte stängt ännu, jag scannar mitt Apple-wallet boarding kort men givetvis så lyser det rött, vilket jag ju var förberedd på.
Men vid liknande situationer i Europa har gaten kunnat flytta tillbaka mig och släppa på mig ändå. Här tog det tvärstopp, först sa de att min plats hade getts bort till någon annan och när jag frågade om det inte fanns någon annan plats så sa de att jag redan hade blivit ombokad.

Det är ju i grunden positivt att de är proaktiva och bokar om så man slipper stå i kö för att lösa det. Men det blir liksom lite tråkigt när dom är för heta på gröten. Som det verkar så kommer jag blir 2h 30min sen till destination så det finns verkligen inget positivt med detta. Får väl hålla tummarna för dryga 30min försening på sista benet..

I övrigt så håller jag med tidigare inlägg, om priset är rätt kommer jag nog trots detta åka igen men om det är samma pris med LH så blir nog LH nästa gång.

Jo det är tydligt att de gillar papper här. Tror att man bör gå på din rekommendation om att skriva ut allt, kan dock nämna att jag enbart hade boardingkort från gaten i Köpenhamn på papper och hade inga problem men fick såklart visa upp eVisa på mobilen.

Bra input att man kan skippa kön till transit hissarna, det ska jag definitivt göra nästa gång.
Jag såg ingen annan väg upp men nu när jag tänker på det så måste det ju finnas en annan väg för de som inte kommer via transit.
Yes, jag kom fram utan problem med flyget jag blev ombokad till ca 2,5h sent. Jag hade bokat taxi via hotellet och de hörde av sig via WhatsApp och bad mig bekräfta upphämtningen varpå jag svarade att jag kommer med ett senare flyg, inte heller några problem. När jag kom ut från baggage claim såg jag direkt skylten med mitt namn, snyggt fixat faktiskt.

Precis, inga större problem. Kul att inläggen uppskattas.
Kanske får jag anledning att skriva något om hemresan också, vi får se.

Angående hemresan, så har jag fått flera mail från Air India om att uppgradera till First det erbjuds dock enbart på sträckan MAA-DEL.
Igår kostade det dryga 8 tusen INR och nu när jag kollat dryga 10 så det verkar vara dynamiska priser (är via plusgrade).
Jag har dock inte hoppat på det, ser inte riktigt vad jag får för pengarna? Hade det varit en nattflygning kanske det vore något att få ett par timmar sömn (flygningen är 2h 45min).
