The hotel belongs to the architectural and civic story of Seville's 1929 Ibero-American Exposition. José Espiau y Muñoz designed a building whose patios, corridors, and public rooms give the stay much of its character. That grandeur helps explain the premium, even though the smallest bedrooms are far less expansive.

Location strengthens the argument. San Fernando 2 places the hotel close to Puerta Jerez, with the Real Alcázar, Seville Cathedral, Santa Cruz, and Plaza de España all fitting naturally into a walking itinerary. For a two- or three-night city stay, much of the sightseeing can be done on foot.

The first surprise is the scale of the entry rooms. A palace-like exterior does not mean every bedroom is palatial. Hotel Alfonso XIII's entry category, the Deluxe Classic Room, measures 21 m². The Deluxe Double/Twin moves to 26 m², and the Grand Deluxe reaches 36 m².

At the right rate, 21 m² can work for a short stay. The case weakens when Classic approaches the price of the 26 m² Deluxe or 36 m² Grand Deluxe.

January's captured direct rates showed Deluxe Classic from €460 per night and Deluxe Double from €475. For roughly €15 more per night, Deluxe added 5 m² and broader potential outlooks, making the upgrade difficult to ignore.

Grand Deluxe is the most interesting conventional room in the captured pricing. Official evidence places it at 36 m², versus 26 m² for Deluxe. In December and both October scenarios, the lowest observed premium over Deluxe was only about €52 to €55 per night.

At those spreads, roughly €52 to €55 bought a 10 m² increase, or about 38 percent more floor area. Grand Deluxe is the first category worth checking against Deluxe when the spread remains modest.

Grand Deluxe Terrace’s official interior size is 32 m², smaller than the 36 m² Grand Deluxe. The premium buys top-floor positioning, a garden orientation, and balcony or terrace space, not additional interior area.

December captured Grand Deluxe from €570 and Grand Deluxe Terrace from €684. A €114 minimum premium is easier to defend for someone expecting to use outdoor space than for a traveler simply chasing square footage.

The Junior Suite increases the room to 43 m², but its captured outlook is toward an inner courtyard. January pricing made that upgrade relatively expensive: Grand Deluxe with breakfast was €567 per night versus €831 for Junior Suite.

Oddly, the next suite steps were less severe. Deluxe Suite was €941 and Premium Suite €1,051 in the same January capture, each only €110 above the previous category. Travelers considering a Junior Suite should price the full suite ladder instead of stopping at the first suite label.

Our August 2026 research sampled four two-night stays across two high-demand October periods, Dec. 1-3, and Jan. 19-21. The table uses the lowest retained direct rate for each decision-relevant category. Direct rates are average nightly prices in euros. N/A means the rate was not retained in our closed pricing evidence, not that the category was unavailable.

In December, Deluxe started at €517, Grand Deluxe at €570, and Grand Deluxe Terrace at €684. Moving from Deluxe to Grand Deluxe cost about €53 per night for a jump from 26 to 36 m². Moving from Grand Deluxe to Terrace cost more than twice that amount and actually reduced the documented interior floor area.

In January, Classic and Deluxe were separated by only €15 per night. Grand Deluxe at €567 remained a more substantial increase, but still offered one of the strongest space gains in the conventional room ladder.

October is where rate discipline becomes most important. Minimum Deluxe rates rose to roughly €836 to €841 per night, compared with €517 in December and €475 in January. A compact room becomes harder to defend when market compression pushes the rate close to or beyond what larger rooms cost during softer periods.

The two October searches produced an unusual result. Deluxe started at €841 for the Tuesday-to-Thursday stay and €836 for the Friday-to-Sunday stay. Grand Deluxe showed a similar relationship at €893 versus €888.

The sample is too small to define a seasonal rule; on these dates, the weekend was not more expensive. Search exact dates rather than assume Friday and Saturday automatically carry the larger premium.

December's Booking.com Deluxe range was of €1,038 to €1,203 for two nights, or roughly €519 to €602 per night before considering plan differences. The direct December Deluxe range was €517 to €600 depending on cancellation and breakfast. The ranges almost overlap. But differences in breakfast, cancellation terms, prepayment, and category mapping prevent a simple cheaper-channel verdict. January was similarly close: Booking.com converted to about €477 to €557 per night, against a €475 direct starting rate.

Booking.com and the hotel also used room names and dimensions that did not always align. Cancellation deadlines, prepayment, breakfast inclusion, and duplicate allocation tiers added further differences.

The useful rule is simple: Compare the final payable total, breakfast, cancellation terms, and Bonvoy value. The evidence gives neither channel a permanent price or inventory advantage.

• Booking.com showed 9.2/10 from 884 reviews, including 9.5 for staff, 9.6 for comfort, 9.5 for cleanliness, and 9.9 for location.
• TripAdvisor stood at 4.5/5 from 3,713 reviews, with 4.9 for location, 4.7 for rooms, 4.7 for sleep quality, and 4.5 for service.
• Google's hotel panel showed 4.6/5 from 7,134 reviews.

The value scores are more revealing than the headline averages. Booking.com's value-for-money rating was 8.4, its weakest displayed category. TripAdvisor's value score was 4.1, below its location, room, cleanliness, and sleep ratings.

Several top-scoring reviews named individual staff members, showing how personal the service can feel when execution is at its best. Other reviews repeatedly raised slower terrace or bar attention, reception follow-through, breakfast pacing, and uneven problem resolution.

Housekeeping is less clear-cut: strong praise sits alongside reports of missed cleans, uneven room servicing, and missing items. Air-conditioning failures surfaced often enough in the supplied evidence to merit attention, particularly at rates approaching €800 or €900 a night. Noise and soundproofing complaints also recur, but the evidence does not support labeling every room noisy.

High prices magnify ordinary hotel problems. A delayed response or weak room assignment lands differently at €850 a night than at €500, especially when the room itself is compact.
