Portugal is good for far more than a just summer beach holiday.
Away from the stunning beaches of the southern Algarve region, north of the charming capital of Lisbon, lies Porto, a fairytale coastal city famed for its production of Port wine.
The cobbled medieval city is also renowned for its well-established traditional gastronomy scene.
The Gastronomic Restaurant at The Yeatman Hotel
And now, the city’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, The Gastronomic Restaurant at 5-star The Yeatman Hotel, has been awarded its second star at the Spain and Portugal Michelin Guide 2017 awards in Barcelona.
After earning a first star in 2011, Chef Ricardo Costa, Head Chef at The Yeatman Hotel in Porto, has once again been acknowledged for his delicious interpretation of traditional Portuguese cuisine, becoming one of only two chefs in Portugal to hold a second a Michelin Star (the other being Austrian-born Chef Dieter Koschina at 5-star hotel
in the Algarve).
Chef Ricardo Costa, Head Chef at The Yeatman Hotel in Porto
Chef Ricardo’s philosophy focuses on showcasing the best local produce and traditional recipes, prepared using innovative techniques, and it is this passion for the unexpected, combined with the love of family classics that has lead him to being awarded his second star, a press release from The Yeatman Hotel said.
“To be awarded a second Michelin Star is one of the greatest honours for a chef and it is down to the hard work of everyone at the hotel that we were able to bring this prolific award back with us to The Yeatman,” Chef Ricardo Costa commented. “I want to thank the extremely talented restaurant team that I work with for their passion and commitment to excellence, the management team for incentivising us to grow creatively and to the guests, it is them that keeps us working hard and moving in the right direction”.
Superior room at The Yeatman Hotel in Porto
As well as showcasing Portugal's vast range of fresh produce and regional specialties, The Gastronomic Restaurant at The Yeatman offers an extensive wine cellar, housing one of the world’s most comprehensive selection of Portuguese wines, including some exceptional vintages.
The hotel’s 82 rooms and suites pay homage to the region’s vineyards, each with an individual design inspired by local wine producers. The hotel also has a rather good wine bar, a deluxe spa with panoramic views, outdoor pool and a gym.
