The world's most expensive festival ticket - at a cool $1 million
Festival season is fast approaching and music fans are now checking line-ups and making travel plans for what they hope will be an unforgettable summer. From the muddy fields of Glastonbury to the sun-drenched Coachella festival in California, there is plenty to entice festivalgoers.
However, festivals - with their eccentric, neon-clad clientele; makeshift tent-cities and more brightly coloured sunglasses than you’re ever likely to see in one place - are not often associated with luxury. Until now, that is… Having been called the world’s ‘most unique music festival’ by several music outlets, Reykjavik’s Secret Solstice festival, which runs June 16–19, is now offering the world’s most expensive festival ticket - at $1 million USD (£700,000).
A party of up to six (very wealthy) friends will enjoy benefits including return business jet flights from anywhere on Earth, a luxury 6-room villa in the centre of Reykjavík, two private concerts - one in a lava field, with helicopter transfers to the location - access to sold out world-first side events, private tours of Iceland and its mesmerising landscape - including a whale & dolphin watching tour - two private luxury cars with drivers, just to name a few. At only $999,717 more than a VIP ticket, this is truly the “festival ticket for that person who already has everything.” A press release stated: “We’re always pushing the boundaries of what is possible for a music festival. Whether it be our world-first parties inside a glacier or in the dormant magma chamber of a volcano, exclusive experiences, or incredible lineup, our aim has always been for Secret Solstice to be an event like no other.”
Other features of this one-of-a-kind luxury festival ticket include access to off-limits areas of the festival site; access to the sold out Secret Solstice presents Inside The Volcano event, the world’s first concert inside a volcano, including helicopter transfers from Reykjavík; private viewing areas for all major acts; access to the private VIP artists bar, only accessible by main stage artists and super-VIP guests; the world famous Blue Lagoon, with helicopter transfers; access to the sold out Secret Solstice presents Inside The Glacier event, the world’s only event inside Langjökull glacier; access to Secret Solstice 2016’s Midnight Sun Boat Party; a personal engraved and framed memorial ticket made from Icelandic lava rock; personal assistants and chef; all food/drinks at Secret Solstice 2016, including hyper-premium drinks; with more to be announced soon. In 2015, the festival launched the world’s most expensive festival ticket at the time - a relative bargain at only $200,000.
This year’s lineup includes Radiohead, Deftones, Of Monsters and Men, Action Bronson, Die Antwoord, and more, and will run between 16th-19th of June 2016.
