St Regis debuts in Malaysia with Langkawi luxury resort
Starwood has brought its luxury St Regis brand to Malaysia with the opening of The St. Regis Langkawi.
Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah, is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia, and is UNESCO’s First World Geopark. The new luxury resort is a joint venture between Rajawali Group and the Government of Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance. “The St. Regis brand remains laser-focused on increasing its presence in destinations where travellers from around the globe are seeking bespoke guest experiences, and we are thrilled to expand our portfolio in Southeast Asia with an extraordinary brand debut in Malaysia – one of the most dynamic countries in the world,” said Jim Petrus, Global Brand Leader, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts.
“The St. Regis Langkawi is set to redefine luxury hospitality on the island, from the resort’s lush, secluded location, to the iconic St. Regis Butler Service which provides guests with beyond expectation experiences,” Petrus continued. The resort, located within a 30-minute drive from Langkawi International Airport, is described as being fringed by a white sand beach overlooking the emerald green waters of a swimmable lagoon, which in turn integrates with the Andaman Sea.
With 4 private overwater villas and 85 suites - all offering unobstructed views of the ocean - the hotel aims to enchant guests with a “dreamlike atmosphere,” with European and Middle Eastern influences complementing the stunning views and the surrounding landscape.
The St. Regis Langkawi features six restaurant and bar venues; including Kayuputi, which serves Asian-inspired haute cuisine; L’Orangerie, with modern French cuisine infused with Asian and Middle Eastern flavours; The St. Regis Bar, serving classic cocktails and canapés; the Decanter wine bar; and The Drawing Room, for intimate gatherings.
Other features include the 8,600 square feet Iridium Spa, a salon, an infinity swimming pool, a natural-salt water lagoon, an athletic club, and over 10,000 square feet of event space, including the chandeliers-adorned Astor Ballroom. “The highly anticipated arrival of St. Regis into Malaysia marks another milestone for the luxury brand’s expansion in South East Asia,” highlighted Charlie Dang, Regional Vice President South East Asia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. “With Langkawi rapidly emerging as a world-class destination, the opening of The St. Regis Langkawi will enhance the island’s efforts to become an internationally renowned luxury destination for affluent global travellers.”
The opening marks the brand’s 37th property and its first ever in Malaysia. Following the recent opening of
