Ritz-carlton included in The Star Sydney's $1 billion plans
A Ritz-Carlton hotel is set to be built at The Star Sydney - one Sydney’s premier events and entertainment destinations.
Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME), John Autelitano, General Manager Hotels, The Star Sydney, outlined plans for a $1 billion upgrade of the high-end, harbour-side development which included a new Ritz-Carlton hotel. Over the next five years, The Star Sydney - already home to a number of hotels, residences, a spa, restaurants, bars, casinos, a theatre and extensive conference facilities - will receive a new hotel tower, now revealed to be branded as a Ritz-Carlton, as well as a connected ribbon development featuring numerous food and beverage offerings and meeting spaces. John Autelitano, General Manager Hotels, The Star Sydney, said, “We are seeking various approvals to develop a new hotel tower and ribbon development that would further enliven the Pyrmont precinct and boost The Star’s accommodation offering beyond 1000 rooms." "We are planning to develop the project in a joint venture with our successful partners from Queen’s Wharf Brisbane bid, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium. We are also in discussions with The Ritz-Carlton in relation to branding of the proposed hotel tower and are excited about the prospect of bringing the Ritz-Carlton Hotel brand back in Sydney to add to the experiences on offer at The Star.” Ritz-Carlton Perth is set to open in 2018, marking the brand's reintroduction into the Australian market following the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Sydney that was rebranded as an InterContinental hotel in 2009.
