Qatar Airways buys Sheraton Skyline Hotel at London Heathrow airport

At a press conference in Berlin, Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker, revealed that the airline has purchased its first hotel outside its home country of Qatar. That hotel is the Sheraton Skyline at London Heathrow, and it will become part of the Oryx brand. The hotel will continue to be managed by Starwood Sheraton but the new name will be Oryx Sheraton Skyline London Heathrow. How Qatar Airways will put their own stamp on the hotel, or if they even will, remains to be seen. London is today one of Qatar Airways's most important destinations, with up to seven daily flights including one with the Airbus A380. Sheraton Skyline is located on Bath Road, north of Heathrow, and has bus transfers to all five terminals. The hotel has a total of 350 rooms, including a club room with lounge. The hotel also has five bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as an indoor garden, Sky Garden, complete with swimming pool. The Oryx brand is present in a number of areas within Qatar Airways; on board flights in the form of the in-flight entertainment system, shops at the new Hamad airport in Doha, and the hotel Oryx Rotana Doha, which Qatar Airways have utilised for many years for overnight stays on longer transfers.
