The Pulitzer Amsterdam is set to showcase its quintessential Dutch redesign when it reopens on August 15 after an extensive restoration.

The hotel is a labyrinth of 25 connected 400-year-old canal houses and gardens set in the heart of the Amsterdam UNESCO World Heritage canal district. The re-opening this summer will see the unveiling of a number of new areas including the main entrance and lobby, the inner gardens, a two-storey gym, and a further 145 guestrooms and suites. An impressive new entrance, the first new building since the canals received UNESCO status, will welcome guests in style, guiding them into the eccentric yet luxurious lobby, furnished with vintage Persian rugs, antique furniture and a collection of historic and contemporary artwork. Adjacent to the lobby, a flower shop greets visitors with a colourful display offering a nod to Dutch culture, whilst a library showcases Pulitzer Prize winning books, hinting to the history of the hotel.

Creative Director, Jacu Strauss, has worked with a highly skilled team to deconstruct the heritage of the canal houses and implement an eclectic yet elegant design that blends original and historic features with luxurious modern-day elements. A total of 225 guestrooms and suites will offer a unique mix of finishes and designs, each providing free WiFi, a vintage telephone, Le Labo amenities, a custom-made minibar with cocktail mixing facilities, and a bike repair kit - this is Amsterdam after all.

Four new Collector’s Suites feature a number of quirky features, including a dramatic floor-to-ceiling archway of books, a wall of trumpets, and a large painting depicting a modern scenario of The Last Supper. Each has a private entrance and stunning views of the canals. Meanwhile, the beautifully romantic Pulitzer’s Suite, with its freestanding grand bathtub, super king size bed and views over the gardens, is ideal for those staying with a partner.

The jewel in the crown of the revamped hotel has to be the inner gardens - occupying an unexpectedly large and serene hideaway nestled at the centre of the hotel. Under the lead of Strauss, renowned Dutch garden architects, Copijn, have created a casual park-like feel within the space, a flexible area for guests and visitors to relax, work or socialise amongst plants and sculptures. Spanning areas of the lobby and the garden is Pause at Pulitzer, the hotel’s inviting café which serves drinks and light dishes throughout the day.

Pulitzer Amsterdam’s new restaurant, Jansz., continues to balance history with a contemporary spirit, offering a menu of modern classics that respect the simplicity of quality produce and ingredients. Next door, Pulitzer’s Bar is a classic and chic hotel bar with attractive furnishings and an intimate atmosphere. The cocktail menu offers drinks that are “classic in element and style, but modern in execution.” Additionally, the hotel houses 9 unique event venues, including the popular Garden Room - a green oasis that can accommodate up to 150 guests for weddings, drinks receptions and meetings; whilst the opulent Saxenburg Room, which can accommodate 75 guests, is a grand salon with 18th century art and a stunning 1750 mantelpiece in Louis XV style.

“We are overwhelmed by the positive feedback we have received so far from guests and locals on the new-look Pulitzer Amsterdam. Our Grand Opening marks the next chapter and a very special moment in the hotel’s history. We are excited to reveal our complete offering and once again fully re-open for business. I am so proud of the dedication from all involved to bring this together, delivering our vision above and beyond,” said Alexander van Gastel, General Manager of Pulitzer Amsterdam.
