The next generation of watersports in the Maldives

The Maldives surely ticks every box for a luxury holiday - dazzling warm waters surrounding numerous island paradises, with cocktail-on-the-beach-weather all year round.

Yet somehow,

Velaa Private Island

has added to the countless reasons to visit the tropical Indian Ocean nation with the introduction of some exciting new water gadgets - a jetpack and a hoverboard!

The sci-fi inspired water jetpack forces water downwards with immense pressure, allowing the wearer to levitate above the water to a lofty 30 feet, no doubt affording stunningly unique views - as long as you don’t get too distracted and lose control of your futuristic backpack, that is. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Velaa’s new ‘flyboard’ - which is apparently like riding a skateboard over the ocean - is sure to give even the most experienced surfer a speed induced adrenaline rush. Hitting a top speed of 16 miles per hour and with the ability to propel its rider 16 feet above the ocean’s surface, this remarkable toy is not something you find under ‘watersports’ at most hotels. https://www.instagram.com/p/BLQrTmyAyg9/ For an adventure below the water’s surface, the hotel also has its very own private submarine.

Located in the breathtaking Noonu Atoll, north of Malé, Velaa Private Island is a purely luxurious boutique hideaway, comprising of 43 private villas, houses and residences, all with their own pool. 18 of the accommodations are built suspended over the water, whilst the Romantic Pool Residence can only be reached by boat.

The resort has three restaurants and two bars, boasting the largest wine and champagne collection in the Maldives. It is also home to the sensuous My Blend by Clarins spas, one of only a select few around the world.
