Mondrian London celebrates London Design Festival with lobby art installation

Along with the installation - which is named ‘Diamond Propeller’ and takes over the hotel’s vast lobby windows - Mondrian London will also be presenting an array of cultural design activities to coincide with the festival (17-25 September 2016), including a series of talks and a workshop in partnership with The School of Life.

Situated on the banks of the River Thames in the famed Sea Containers building, the striking Mondrian London brings a new energy to London, blending the style and sophistication of the boutique brand with Southbank's eclectic vibe. Mondrian London at Sea Containers was designed by Design Research Studio under the creative direction of visionary Tom Dixon.

The London Design Festival is one of the capital's premium events, with the world's finest talent descending on the city to showcase the latest in furniture, textiles, architecture and product design.

Mondrian will be offering the opportunity to see the dramatic installation and meet Maciej Urbanek who will be speaking about his design inspiration and upcoming projects. Following this, Jacu Strauss, the lead designer who worked alongside Tom Dixon on Mondrian London, will introduce guests to the hotel with an intimate tour, providing an insight into the design and unique features visible throughout the hotel. The talks will take place on Monday 19 September at 6.30pm and Tuesday 20 September at 9am, with tickets available on a complimentary basis.  

The ‘Diamond Propeller’ will be installed in Mondrian London for six months, marking the launch of a series of temporary artworks that will be commissioned by the team and positioned within the lobby of the hotel. “Through patronage and sponsoring of contemporary art and emerging talent, Mondrian London is firmly cementing itself as a significant location on the cultural map of London,” a press release from the hotel said.
