Abu Dhabi-based Lulu Group International has purchased Great Scotland Yard in London in a £110 million deal, with plans to convert it into a five star hotel. This follows news that the group will also open a five star hotel in Dubai’s Business Bay in October.

Serving as the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police between 1829 and 1890, Great Scotland Yard is a historic landmark that was once home to the investigation of Jack the Ripper and featured in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes books. Located close to 10 Downing Street and Trafalgar Square, the Edwardian building, and an adjoining Victorian town house, is due to open as a 233-room, five star hotel in the first quarter of 2017 following a £50 million renovation. The seven story hotel, with two additional basement levels, will be operated by Steigenberger Hotel Group. This will be the German firm’s first foray into London’s booming hotel market.

Great Scotland Yard, London Steigenberger have recently announced that they will be bringing their world-renowned German hospitality to another luxury hotel in the Lulu Group, a five star hotel in Dubai’s Business Bay, set to open in October this year. It will be Lulu’s first hotel in Dubai. The 365-room luxury hotel is situated close to the iconic Burj Khalifa skyscraper and features no fewer that five restaurants, a banqueting and conference area, and a spa and fitness area with pool and panoramic views.

Puneet Chhatwal

, CEO of Steigenberger Hotels AG, commented: "Having recently announced hotel openings in Istanbul, Munich, Cairo, and Mallorca, the opening of the new hotel at Business Bay re-affirms our commitment to international growth and the Middle East in particular. The hotel in Dubai is symbolic of our growing international presence at strategically important locations."
