Lisbon is fast becoming one of the most popular city break destinations. And with good reason. The Portuguese capital is a hotbed of art and culture, is great value for money, and has one of the best climates in Europe.
With this newfound attention, the city is seeing a number of new hotels pop up to compete with its
well-established properties
. And while some of these new hotels are impressive, there is one mainstay of the Lisbon hotel scene that’s going to take some beating.
With more than 80 years of history behind it, the beautiful
Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa Hotel
is a city landmark. While the hotel the hotel has long been a favourite of celebrities and VIPs from all over the world thanks to its prime location on Avenida Liberdade and spectacular old-world architecture, Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa now exudes more timeless elegance than ever thanks to a €15 million (£13.3 m) refurbishment.
The unique character of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade has been renewed by renowned architectural firm Broadway Malyan, who have seamlessly blended the property’s historical prowess with contemporary flair. What results is a gracious tribute to a history of Portuguese art, culture and society, where the authentic and warm Portuguese hospitality, for which Tivoli has always been known, is perfectly at home.
The hotel reopened in April following the extensive upgrade that saw rooms expanded and brightened with contemporary décor; a lobby that was entirely renewed with a stunning atrium crowned by a glass dome; and the spectacular rooftop Sky Bar reinvigorated with a modern feel that perfectly offsets the Lisbon skyline.
Following extensive work, the property’s 285 rooms and suites now offer extra space and increased luxury. Classically designed Superior Rooms boast panoramic views of the Lisbon skyline, while Deluxe Rooms have lush courtyard views. Deluxe Family Rooms are the biggest new development, now expanded for groups of up to four people. Junior Suites, Club Suites and Executive Suites feature simple yet modern designs and luxurious touches, such as large marble bathrooms outfitted with Bulgari and Hermès amenities. Diplomatic and Presidential Suite guests also enjoy 24-hour butler service.
