Situated in Elounda – an idyllic former fishing village in Crete – and with breathtaking views from its hillside position, the luxury resort of Domes of Elounda has long been the luxury destination of choice of celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Rhianna.

Above all, however, Domes of Elounda is the ultimate foodie destination, playing host to one of Greece’s most prominent culinary festivals, the Annual Festival de la Gastronomie, during which three Michelin-starred chefs take over the resort’s fine-dining restaurants for one week each.

The resort has raised the bar even further in 2016 with their new range of authentic experience packages, enabling guests to explore first-hand the traditional techniques and ingredients for making delicious Cretan dishes and pastries. This experience will take guests to the traditional community of Kritsa on the Lassithi mountains, one of the oldest and most picturesque villages in Crete. Surrounded by olive groves producing award winning olive oil, the village is built on the side of a hill and offers a slow pace of life.

From Domes of Elounda, guests are taken to Kritsa where they will be greeted by members of the village women’s cooperative – these ladies are the drive behind keeping old traditions alive. Here the experience will see guests learn about the processes of traditional Cretan pie-making, with the chance to make their own pie with the fresh ingredients available at the time of visit.

This Cretan experience then takes guests to Panagia Kera, a 13th Century Byzantine Church, where it’s time to replenish with a traditional Cretan meal at the local tavern, Paradeisos. Guests can try local delicacies ranging from eggs with 'staka' (a roux dish made from goat’s milk) to dakos and lamb with stamnagathi (a wild green that has become popular in top-end restaurants).

Prices for the Cretan cooking experience start from £92 per adult and £46 for children aged 4-12 years. Domes of Elounda is only 3 hours and 55 minutes out of Gatwick, with nearby Heraklion airport making access easy.
