The Grand Brighton to revamp iconic façade

Built in 1864, the luxury seafront hotel was originally a haven for members of high society visiting the popular British seaside town.

Having survived an IRA bomb attack in October 1984, which saw the Victorian hotel close for three years, The Grand Brighton continues to set the benchmark for 5-star luxury in the region.

Carried out over four phases, the renovation is due to be completed in autumn 2017, with initial work commencing on the East Wing last week. It is the first major work to be conducted on the hotel’s exterior since 2003.

Enhancements will include the installation of a new lighting system to “enrich the architectural design of the building”, whilst new windows and balconies will be installed on all sea-facing rooms. A re-render of the front of the building will also take place.

The Grand will be working closely with Brighton Council and other conservation groups to ensure the heritage of the building is respected and restored to its former glory, a press release from the hotel said.

“Since becoming an independent hotel in 2014,” comments Andrew Mosley, General Manager at The Grand, “our owners have invested a significant amount and this project is a testament to our ongoing commitment to our customers and improving the guest experience at The Grand.”

“The Grand is one of Brighton’s most treasured icons with a well-known and storied history. Once completed, the restoration of the façade will not only return the hotel to its former glory, but firmly establish The Grand as one of the landmark destinations on Brighton’s famous seafront.”

The restoration project is the latest development in a wider multi million pound investment programme, following the sale of the hotel to independent owners from the De Vere group in 2014.

This has seen The Grand refurbish its Victoria Terrace, Lounge and Bar, as well as upgrades to its acclaimed seafood restaurant, GB1.
