To mark the Victoria and Albert Museum’s latest headline exhibition - Opera: Passion, Power and Politics - the 5-star Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel in London is serving up an opera-themed afternoon tea experience.

Located in the heart of Knightsbridge, the Jumeirah Carlton Tower will be offering the special afternoon tea to guests and the public alike from Saturday 30th September to coincide with the opening of Opera: Passion, Power and Politics at the Victoria and Albert Museum, also located in Knightsbridge.

The exhibition will explore a vivid story of opera from its origins in late-Renaissance Italy to the present day. Told through the lens of seven premieres in seven European cities, the exhibition will take visitors on a journey through nearly 400 years, culminating in the international explosion of opera in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Served in the Chinoiserie lounge at Jumeirah Carlton Tower, the Opera Afternoon Tea will feature a selection of savouries and pastries inspired by the opera houses and cities featured in the V&A exhibition.

Guests who opt for the cocktail afternoon tea will also receive a Don Giovanni cocktail made with Mozart chocolate liqueur, amaretto and fresh cream; a ticket to Opera: Passion, Power and Politics; and a mini MP3 player preloaded with arias from the seven different operas to listen to whilst they indulge. The MP3 player will then be theirs to keep and take home with them.

The Opera Afternoon Tea savoury selection features Mini croissants filled with Brie de Meaux and grape chutney (inspired by Paris); Bruschetta of fontina cheese, heritage tomatoes and basil (Milan) and Beetroot cured salmon on pumpernickel bread with quail’s eggs (St. Petersburg).

These are then followed by an array of delicate pastries, including an Earl Grey tea and prune crumble tart (London); a Medovik honey cake (St. Petersburg); a Mascarpone panna cotta and limoncello jelly (Venice); and a Chocolate and praline gateau (Paris). Homemade scones, clotted cream and traditional preserves round off the tea table treats created by the hotel’s talented pastry chef Louise Boschetti.

Located just off Sloane Street, Jumeirah Carlton Tower is within comfortable walking distance of the Victoria and Albert Museum, in the heart of one of London’s most fashionable shopping districts.

The Opera Afternoon Tea will be served daily in the Chinoiserie lounge at Jumeirah Carlton Tower from 3pm to 6pm and costs £45 per person or £55 including a Don Giovanni cocktail, a ticket to Opera: Passion, Power and Politics at the V&A and mini MP3 player preloaded with opera music.
