Etihad to deploy A380 to Mumbai

Etihad Airways has redefined the standard for luxury air travel between Abu Dhabi and Mumbai by introducing the Airbus A380 on this strategic route, positioning itself alongside Singapore Airlines and Emirates as one of the select few operating the double-decker superjumbo to India’s commercial capital.

Replacing the Boeing 777-300ER, the A380’s arrival on the Mumbai route delivers a dramatic 50% increase in passenger capacity. Discerning travelers can now experience Etihad’s acclaimed four-class configuration, including the ultra-exclusive three-room ‘The Residence’ suite, nine First Class Apartments, 70 Business Studios, and 415 Economy Smart Seats—each designed for maximum comfort and privacy.

This flagship A380 service is seamlessly integrated into Etihad’s triple-daily Mumbai schedule, offering direct onward connections to Etihad’s A380-operated New York route. Passengers journeying from India to the United States can enjoy a consistent, world-class experience aboard the world’s largest passenger aircraft.

Flight EY204 departs Abu Dhabi at 14:10, touching down in Mumbai at 19:20. The return, EY203, leaves Mumbai at 21:35 and arrives in Abu Dhabi at 23:25, providing convenient timings for both business and leisure travelers.

Etihad’s A380 network has expanded significantly since its introduction, now serving key long-haul destinations including London, Sydney, New York, and Melbourne, in addition to Mumbai. The aircraft’s deployment underscores Etihad’s commitment to delivering a peerless inflight product on its most vital routes.

In a statement, Etihad Airways’ Group CEO James Hogan affirmed, “Introducing our flagship A380 to India and Maharashtra highlights our ongoing investment in the region and our confidence in its continued economic dynamism.”

India’s aviation sector remains one of the world’s fastest-growing, and Etihad continues to strengthen its presence by deploying next-generation aircraft to major Indian gateways. As covered by BusinessClass.co.uk, the competitive landscape is also evolving, with Norwegian Airlines recently announcing new UK-India routes, including service to Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

Norwegian CEO Bjørn Kjos commented, “As incomes in India rise, we anticipate a surge in travelers visiting the UK for both leisure and family reasons. With a population nearing 1.5 billion, India is set to become a major source market for international travel.”
