It was nine years ago since Emirates welcomed the "superjumbo" Airbus A380 into its fleet. To celebrate, the Dubai-based airline last week launched a newly revamped lounge and bar aboard its A380 service to Kuala Lumpur. Following this upgrade, all 46 of Emirates’ A380s will be retrofitted with the new product.

The lounge onboard Emirates A380s has been one of the most popular social spots in the skies since it first flew in August 2008.

So in honour of its ninth year of operations, the lounge has been given a modern makeover, with the style of a luxury yacht the inspiration for its new design. There has also been a focus on creating an enhanced meeting area for First and Business Class passengers.

The lounge can accommodate up to 26 guests, who will be able to enjoy a range of international wine from the manned bar. The offering varies slightly from destination to destination, but chilled champagne from Moët & Chandon or Veuve Clicquot should always be available.

Over 6,000 Emirates employees have been trained as bartenders. They have can expertly mix 14 different cocktails, including the airline’s signature Bloody Mary and an alcohol-free Apple Spritzer. The lounge also serves Hennessy XO Cognac and 18-year-old Scottish Chivas Regal Whiskey. There is also a wide selection of snacks available - from smoked salmon bagels to fresh fruit skewers, which are served along with the drinks.

For those who prefer something without alcohol, the menu also includes juices, Illy coffee, and a variety of different tea variants from Dilmah. Passengers can also catch up on the latest international news thanks to a 55 inch TV in the bar.

Emirates flies the A380 to 48 cities on 6 continents. The latest cities to join the A380 network this year are Sao Paulo, Casablanca and Nice
