British Airways returns to Iran
Earlier this week, British Airways relaunched flights to Tehran in Iran, four years after direct service from the UK was halted. The move opens up the culture-rich country, with hopes to make Iran the new ‘must-see’ destination for open-minded travellers.
In today’s political climate, and with Iran often making headlines for the wrong reasons, the country might not be the first destination on most people’s holiday wish-list. However, Sean Doyle, British Airways’ Head of network and fleet, highlighted British Airways’ long history of flying to Iran and described it as a “fascinating country, full of amazing and surprising places for tourists to visit and discover its sophisticated and ancient culture.”
The new six-times weekly service took off from Heathrow on Thursday, September 1st, following the recent relaxation of sanctions.
The country certainly offers the intrepid traveller a wealth of cultural insights, colourful traditions, and many remarkably preserved historical sites. Mountain hiking, skiing and a number of beach resorts add to Iran’s attraction as a tourist destination. Iranians are also famed for their hospitality, while Persian cuisine (think roasted kebabs and flavourful stews) are sure to make your mouth water.
The recent lifting of sanctions has also effectively allowed Iran to re-open for business and paved the way for commerce to re-connect with Iran’s economy, which is the second largest in Middle East and North Africa, with a diverse range of businesses and industries.
