airberlin will introduce a new direct service between Stockholm and Dusseldorf, with three daily flights from May 2016. The new route gives passengers access to a global route network, with connections to airberlin's long-haul routes via Dusseldorf, including new destinations Boston, San Francisco, Dallas and Havana.

From May onwards, airberlin will also increase flights between Gothenburg and Berlin with a fourth daily departure. As airberlin strengthens its presence in its two hubs, Düsseldorf and Berlin, it continues to expand its market position in these airports, and, in addition to the new Stockholm route, the airline will offer more frequent flights to Copenhagen, Venice, Florence, Barcelona and Budapest, and new routes to Sofia and Bologna. "We want to strengthen our competitiveness in Europe with new destination and additional services on major routes. This is the only way to keep ahead of the game, particularly in the important business travel segment. Our hubs Berlin and Dusseldorf are in the centre of our new network strategy and along with that the improvement of the integration of our flights at both of these. This will enable us to offer our passengers improved connections particularly to our long-haul flights", said Stefan Pichler, Chief Executive Officer of airberlin. All new destinations and additional flight frequencies on existing European routes will have excellent links with both German hubs, and thus will offer multiple connections to airberlin's long-haul destinations. In total, airberlin will introduce an additional 15 weekly flights to and from the US, meaning the total number of departures from Dusseldorf and Berlin to eight destinations in the US will be 58 every week. airberlin starts flying between Stockholm Arlanda and Dusseldorf on May 2, 2016. The first new long-haul flights from Dusseldorf to Dallas Fort Worth and Boston depart on May 6 and 7 with an A330-200. From May 6, Düsseldorf - San Francisco will launch with an initial three-times weekly service, increasing to five-times weekly in June. airberlin will also commence services to the Cuban capital Havana twice a week.
