BusinessClass.com score: 9/10

The First Class experience on All Nippon Airways (ANA) is incredible. The Suite, its newest inflight product, features on its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and is available on routes including Tokyo to New York and London.

ANA operates dual hubs at Tokyo Haneda and Narita airports, where passengers enjoy premium check-in and fast-track security access – also available worldwide. ANA's Airbus A380s and most Boeing 777-300ERs have the latest lie-flat seat – 'The Suite' – complete with privacy doors. Any 777s yet to receive the refurbishment feature older seats, which still offer good privacy and plenty of practical space.

British Airways

BusinessClass.com score: 8/10

First Class is now offered on only a handful of BA's routes and may not be the most groundbreaking of travel experiences, but it offers plenty to appreciate and enjoy. From its Heathrow hub, passengers get dedicated check-in, expedited security, and the spacious First Lounge. The more exclusive Concorde Room is a quieter hideaway with table service and the airline's most expensive wines, spirits and refreshments.

Onboard, First Class is always designed in a 1-2-1 configuration with nearly two-metre-long electronically adjusted lie-flat seats. On newer B777-300ER aircraft, the seat includes sliding privacy doors and a three-point seat belt. A large ottoman allows for companion dining.

"Dine Anytime" à la carte menus are served on high-end British crockery, cutlery and glassware. On day flights, the signature afternoon tea is rather elegant, and a good wine selection has been curated, along with a long list of cocktails, mocktails, exclusive BrewDog beers, and a wide assortment of soft drinks and juices.

BusinessClass.com score: 8/10

American Airlines is the only remaining North American carrier to offer long-haul First Class. Flagship First is only available on Boeing 777-300 aircraft.

Flagship First passengers receive excellent on-the-ground services when departing from hub airports, with expedited check-in and security processes and first-rate Flagship Lounges offering high-end à la carte dining, premium beverages, expansive seating and shower facilities.

The Flagship First cabin on the B777-300ER offers eight lie-flat seats that swivel 90 degrees to the side like an office chair. Each seat has ample storage and an ottoman that doubles as a companion dining seat. Inflight service can be varied depending on the flight attendant.

The quality and presentation of meal service may not live up to the standards one may expect when flying international long-haul First Class. However, regional dishes are served on some Asian routes, with delightful local meals on its Tokyo flights. Printed beverage menus outline inflight Champagne and wines, and there is a comprehensive list of cocktails, international beers, soft drinks and juices.

Entertainment systems in Flagship First are similar to those in Business Class but offer a great choice of content, along with Bang & Olufsen noise-cancelling headphones. Casper pyjamas and slippers are the first of many welcome gifts, including Shinola and D.S. & Durga amenity kits.

Singapore Airlines

BusinessClass.com score: 10/10

These serve short and long-haul destinations, including indirect flights to Los Angeles and direct flights to northern Europe and destinations such as Hong Kong, Tokyo and Jakarta, which are closer to its Singapore hub.

Singapore Airlines is gradually moving away from First Class cabins on its long-haul flights in favour of Suites or Business Class products.

Singapore Airlines’ service is legendary, and First Class and Suites passengers will enjoy the crème de la crème of airline experiences.  Air France La Première

BusinessClass.com score: 10/10

Air France La Première is arguably the most exclusive First Class experience in the skies. It is offered in the French airlines' fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs on select long-haul routes, with just four First Class seats available in a very bijoux & refined cabin.

Passengers flying from the airline’s Paris-Charles de Gaulle hub experience a fabulous airport lounge with exquisite cuisine designed by a Michelin-starred chef. Add to that a personal concierge and chauffeur service to the airport and across the airport’s apron to the aircraft door, and La Première passengers can’t help but feel the joie de vivre.

Air France KLM offers passengers the Flying Blue loyalty programme. Members can earn and redeem frequent flier miles when flying Air France or any SkyTeam partners. However, redeeming miles or upgrading to La Première is notoriously difficult due to its exclusivity and limited availability. Only those holding Flying Blue Platinum status can redeem miles for Air France La Première.

Airlines Toplists - 13 Best First Class Airlines in the World

What We Love:

The La Premiere Lounge at at Terminal 2E Paris-CDG at Gate 14 is one of the finest First Class lounges in the world. It's bijou. Because it is only for First Class passengers, it is often empty … apart from you. I was greeted by name by a personal Concierge. I was offered a small tour of the Lounge taking in the dining room, bar, ablution facilities, Sisley Spa and sleeping area. Fine Champagne (so many choices), whisky (including Johnnie Walker Blue Label) and fancy bottled water was served freely. The Sisley Spa offered treatments from massages to facials - some are complimentary, some not … all fabulous. The cuisine is prepared by a Chef with the experience designed with Alain Ducasse - one of all-time culinary greats. The shower rooms are amazing as are the rest areas. It's like staying in a Paris luxury hotel … I LOVED it!

The cuisine designed by Michelin-starred chefs, both on the ground and in the air, is an exceptional treat. I adore good food … and good wine … and good whisky! The La Première airline dining experiences - in the Lounge and mid-air - are the closest you are going to get to a proper Michelin-starred “land” experience. With meals “prepared” by the likes of Glenn Viel (3 Michelin stars) and Alain Ducasse (15 stars plus) with desserts by world pastry champion Philippe Rigollot and wines from Krug, Tattinger and Veuve Clicquot  - mostly vintage, reassuringly rare and expensive - how could I not enjoy flying La Première?

The whole La Première experience is truly amazing and only Emirates (with its shower in the sky) comes close. From the limo service from my Paris hotel, to me being whisked through check-in, customs & immigration - hand held all the way, the Lounge (as above), private car from Terminal to aircraft, one of four seats in the cabin, superb cuisine, service, amenities and as much Johnnie Walker Blue Label that I could quaff, La Première is worth saving up for!

Champagne:

Notable vintages have included Taittinger Cuvée Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2005 and Barsac Château Doisy-Védrines 2008. Other Champagnes served in La Première include Piper-Heidsieck Rare Champagne 2006
