The British airline launched its brand-new product this week in London - taking Upper Class travel to exciting new levels of sophistication and design.
Virgin’s fleet of 16 Airbus A330-900neos – which take to the skies later this year - will feature customised interiors with 30 new Vantage XL Upper Class suites and the introduction of the ‘Retreat Suite’ described by Virgin as “the most spacious suite in Virgin Atlantic’s history.”
These two unique suites connect at the front centre of the Upper Class cabin. They will feature seats that extend to a 6-foot-7-inch (200 centimetre) fully flat bed and an ottoman that doubles as an extra seat. They are large enough for four passengers to socialise and dine in the intimacy of their own booth. Add to that two 27-inch (68 centimetres) touchscreen televisions with Bluetooth connectivity and wireless charging, and these GBP200 one-way upgrades to the standard Upper Class suites are sure to be a big hit.
Virgin Atlantic is not the only airline to offer a "Business Plus" suite product on the first row. Several airlines – including JetBlue, China Eastern and Air New Zealand - are turning the first row of Business Class into an upgraded Business Class seat with more personal space and privacy – at a surcharge.
Suites in the Upper Class cabin are forward-facing in a 1-2-1 configuration and come with privacy doors, independent mood lighting, a vanity mirror, wireless charging, and a 17.3-inch (44 centimetres) touchscreen television, as well as plenty of cubby holes for storage.
In addition, the A330-900neos will feature The Loft – a lobby-style social space adjacent to the second set of exit doors – dedicated for up to eight passengers with comfortable seating for four and a self-serve fridge and drinks dispenser. Bluetooth headphones can connect to the dual 27-inch touchscreens and there are wireless charging facilities.
Virgin Atlantic also unveiled 46 trademark Premium Economy seats in a 2-3-2 configuration with a 38-inch pitch (97 centimetres), calf rests, 13.3-inch (34 centimetres) touchscreen televisions, Bluetooth audio and wireless charging. Classic Economy will feature 184 standard seats in a 2-4-2 configuration with a 31-inch (78 centimetres) pitch – including 28 Economy Delight seats with a pitch of 34-inches (86 centimetres), 13.3-inch touchscreen televisions (34 centimetres), Bluetooth audio, and AC & USB power outlets.
The first aircraft will start flying between London Heathrow (LHR) and Boston (BOS) in October this year.
