The entire Airbus A380s fleet will be upgraded

While many international carriers have retired their Airbus A380 fleets, Singapore Airlines is charting a distinctive course by committing to a comprehensive, multi-million dollar cabin refresh for every A380 in its operation.

Singapore Airlines, a pioneer in deploying the Airbus A380, continues to showcase its dedication to luxury air travel. Although the airline previously operated 19 A380s, its current fleet stands at 12 aircraft, reflecting industry-wide shifts in demand. Despite this reduction, the carrier has moved forward with its ambitious plan to modernize every superjumbo, ensuring that each offers the latest in premium onboard amenities. As demand for long-haul luxury travel surges in 2025, flagship routes such as Singapore-London and Singapore-Sydney are once again being served by the A380, much to the delight of discerning travelers. The revival of the A380 also means the celebrated Singapore Airlines Suites—widely regarded as one of the most luxurious First Class experiences globally—remain available for those seeking exclusivity at 35,000 feet.

Our editorial team was present at the original Singapore unveiling of these next-generation cabins, which set new benchmarks in privacy and comfort. The upgraded Suites offer enhanced space and exclusivity, while Business Class features innovative seating capable of transforming into a true double bed—an industry-leading feature that continues to impress.

Singapore Airlines initially allocated approximately USD 850 million to overhaul its entire A380 fleet, underlining a steadfast commitment to passenger experience. Even as the fleet size has evolved, this investment remains one of the largest in commercial aviation for cabin innovation.

As of 2025, Singapore Airlines operates 12 A380s: five delivered with new interiors since 2017/2018, three retrofitted with the latest cabins, and one currently in the final stages of refurbishment. The remaining three aircraft are scheduled to complete their upgrades within the year, ensuring all A380s feature a unified, state-of-the-art onboard product. Each aircraft undergoes an extensive eight-month transformation process, incorporating the latest design and technology enhancements.
