Qantas - Project Sunrise back on track for 2026

Qantas has reaffirmed its commitment to launching nonstop flights between Australia and both the United States and Europe as part of its groundbreaking Project Sunrise, with inaugural services scheduled for 2026.

These ultra-long-haul journeys—such as Sydney to London or New York—will span up to 22 hours in the air, requiring the advanced Airbus A350-1000, specifically modified with a third fuel tank to achieve the necessary range. While supply chain bottlenecks and certification delays previously cast uncertainty over the timeline, Qantas has since secured full regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for the critical modifications. The project is now firmly back on the 2026 schedule.

Qantas’ fleet order includes 12 state-of-the-art A350-1000s, each configured with just 238 seats to maximize passenger comfort. The layout features 52 Business Class Suites, 6 First Class Suites offering unprecedented privacy, and 40 Premium Economy seats—setting a new standard for long-haul luxury.
