Qantas and Perth Airport have announced a historic commercial agreement that will unlock a multi-billion-dollar investment wave, boosting Australia’s tourism industry with new international and domestic flights.
As part of the 12-year agreement, Perth Airport will invest around AUD3 billion in new terminal facilities and a parallel runway, driving immediate and ongoing economic growth and job creation
Qantas and Jetstar will relocate all services to a new terminal in the Airport Central precinct. This move, along with significant investment in new aircraft, will help transform Western Australia into a major domestic and international hub for the airlines.
Qantas and Jetstar plan to add 4.4 million seats to and from Perth annually by the time the new terminal opens in 2031.
The new hub will significantly enhance inbound tourism and provide Australians with more travel options to Asia, Africa, India, and Europe.
The new terminal aims to offer a world-class travel experience with seamless domestic and international transfers and state-of-the-art check-in and bag drop facilities. Qantas plans to collaborate with Perth Airport on a multi-lounge precinct for international and domestic passengers featuring new design, dining, and wellness initiatives.
Qantas says that hundreds of thousands more travellers will travel to and through Western Australia each year, but it will also make it easier for overseas tourists to connect to more destinations across Australia. Perth-London and Perth-Rome are two of the most popular flights on its international network.
With the launch of Perth-Paris in July and Jetstar’s new services into Asia starting later this year, Qantas says that Perth is on track to become its second biggest international gateway behind Sydney.
