JAL unveils new A350 Business Class & First Class

Japan Airlines (JAL) has revealed its much-anticipated Business Class and First Class offerings that will take to the air this November. Both Business and First will feature suites and debut on the airline's A350-1000 aircraft that will fly between Tokyo (Haneda) and New York - a 13-hour journey.

JAL's A350-1000s will carry 239 passengers and include:

  • 6 First Class suites
  • 54 Business Class suites
  • 24 Premium Economy seats

At a glance: 

Cabin Interior: The entire aircraft cabin is “crafted to immerse passengers in the refined beauty of Japanese design”, offering a peaceful atmosphere that embodies Japan's allure. The updated interior is designed to offer patrons a premium experience, mirroring the “consistent excellence of JAL’s service”, as seen in domestic fleet comprising the A350-900 and 787-8 aircraft.

Seating: All seating classes have been revamped with newly designed seats to deliver JAL's “most comfortable journey yet”. First Class and Business Class feature expansive suites with complete privacy, while Premium Economy Class features “upgraded comfort and seclusion”.

Inflight Meal Service: JAL will be progressively introducing new menus  that “resonate with the varied tastes and values” of its passengers. The airline is transitioning to tableware and cutlery made from non-petroleum-based plastics. 

Inflight Entertainment: There is a new entertainment system and inflight Wi-Fi service on board. All classes will feature 4K monitors for high-quality viewing with Bluetooth connectivity. Each passenger will also be able to create a personalised favourites list through integration with the JAL Mobile App - enhancing their inflight entertainment experience.

Business Class: 

Featuring 54 suites spread over 14 rows in a 1-2-1 layout:

  • The seat dimensions: 51" pitch (129 cms), 22" (56 cms) width, a 78" (198 cms) bed length, a 52" high wall (132 cms), and a 24" (61 cms)entertainment screen
  • Business Class suites come equipped with privacy doors - a first for JAL
  • Overhead bins only on the window side. Additionally, each seat boasts a personal wardrobe and luggage storage
  • Passengers can indulge in entertainment through built-in headrest speakers, eliminating the need for headphones
  • Wireless charging capabilities and are cushioned with pressure-distributing materials
  • New vegan and vegetarian menus
  • Dine on demand
  • Japan Airlines will “loan" passengers Uchino pyjamas - which must be returned
  • Amenity kit from Heralbony, with a mission to “Unleash Your Exceptionality”. As part of the celebration of the A350-1000 inaugural flight, a JAL exclusive “MISOKA” toothbrush, which can be used with just water will be offered for a limited time

First Class suite with impressive monitor

First Class: 

Featuring 6 suites spread over two rows in a 1-1-1 layout: 
 

  • The seat will have 83″ (211 cms) of pitch, 48″ (122 cms) of width, the bed will be 80″ (203 cms) long, the wall will be 62″ (157 cms) high, and the entertainment monitor will be 43″ (110 cms)
  • Sofa, Seat & Single Bed, or Double Bed (only one passenger allowed)
  • First Class suites come equipped with privacy doors - a first for JAL
  • No overhead bins in the cabin - wardrobe and storage space at each seat
  • The suite will offer three seating modes, including a sofa, a seat and a single bed, and a double bed
  • JAL is introducing the world’s first headphone-free stereo with built-in headrest speakers - no need for headphones
  • Wireless charging capabilities - and ability to communicate with flight attendants through a monitor at the seat
  • New vegan and vegetarian menus
  • Japan Airlines will “loan” passengers Uchino pyjamas - which must be returned
  • Amenity kit from Heralbony, with a mission to “Unleash Your Exceptionality”. As part of the celebration of the A350-1000 inaugural flight, a JAL exclusive “MISOKA” toothbrush, which can be used with just water will be offered for a limited time
  • At the Haneda JAL First Class Lounge, a new exclusive hand-drip coffee service will be introduced, along with the resumption of shoe polishing services.

Premium Economy - leg rests and seat partitions

Premium Economy: 

Featuring 24 seats spread across three rows in a 2-4-2 layout:

  • The seats will have 42″ (107 cms) of pitch, 19″ (48 cms) of width, and the entertainment monitor will be 16″ (41 cms)
  • World first! This will be the first Premium Economy to offer electronically operated reclining functionality
  • Improved privacy - as Premium Economy will feature large partitions
  • The seats will feature leg rests that can go up 90 degrees
  • Premium paid dining concepts

JAL has purchased 13 A350-1000s and will take delivery of two by the end of this year. The other 11 will be delivered between 2025 and 2028. The airline will then have retired its Boeing 777-200ER fleet.
