ITA Airways has significantly strengthened its modern fleet, acquiring four state-of-the-art Airbus aircraft within a single week—a strategic move that elevates its count of next-generation jets to 44 among a total fleet of 87.
This latest expansion features a diverse selection: an ITA Airways-owned A330-900 for long-haul excellence, as well as three advanced leased models—A321neo, A320neo, and A220-100—tailored for versatile short and medium-haul operations.
As a result of these additions, the average age of ITA Airways’ fleet has impressively dropped from 12.5 to just 8.4 years in a little over two years. More than half of their aircraft now feature the latest Airbus innovations. The airline is on track to introduce 26 additional aircraft by the end of 2025, aiming for a fleet of 96, with new-generation models projected to make up 67%.
ITA Airways is equipping its new aircraft with leading-edge avionics, high-speed onboard Wi-Fi, and eco-conscious technologies. These upgrades are designed to enhance both operational efficiency and the inflight experience, while reducing the airline’s environmental footprint. By the close of 2027, ITA Airways plans for approximately 90% of its fleet to be eco-friendly, targeting a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and a substantial decrease in CO₂ emissions—positioning itself as a frontrunner in sustainable European aviation.
