Emirates goes digital in Dubai

Emirates goes digital in Dubai

Beginning 15 May, Emirates has transitioned to a predominantly digital boarding process for passengers departing Dubai, in a move designed to streamline the airport journey and support environmental sustainability.

Travelers checking in at Terminal 3 now automatically receive their digital boarding passes by email or SMS. For those who check in online, boarding passes can be seamlessly added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or accessed via the Emirates App. Baggage tags and receipts are also delivered electronically, either to email or directly within the app, ensuring a smooth, paperless experience.

This strategic initiative is part of Emirates' commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and enhancing passenger convenience. The digital solution accelerates check-in and boarding, allowing for a more efficient airport flow while significantly cutting down on paper consumption.

Passengers can use their mobile boarding pass at every airport touchpoint—whether shopping at Dubai Duty Free, clearing security, or boarding at the gate—simply by displaying the QR code on their device. Emirates staff and airport personnel scan the code at each checkpoint, facilitating a seamless transition from curb to cabin.

While the majority of travelers will benefit from this digital-first approach, printed boarding passes remain available for select groups. Passengers traveling with infants, unaccompanied minors, those requiring special assistance, travelers with onward connections on partner airlines, and all flights bound for the United States will still receive physical passes as required by regulations.

Should a traveler need a printed pass—due to lack of device access, depleted phone battery, technical issues, or connectivity problems—Emirates agents at check-in counters can readily provide one upon request.

The Emirates App enhances the experience beyond check-in, offering early access to digital dining menus and enabling travelers to curate and sync personalized entertainment playlists for the award-winning ICE inflight entertainment system the moment they board.
