British Airways was once respected as “the world's favourite airline”. However, since the emergence of carriers including Qatar Airways, Emirates and Etihad - which offer the likes of Qsuites and First Class inflight shower facilities - that crown has slipped.
UK's flag carrier has announced a raft of upgrades that it hopes will - at least - make it “a” favourite among premium fliers.
It's Boeing 787-8 fleet has started flying the airline's new Club Suite. There will be - in total - 12 aircraft retrofitted with 31 Club Suites and 37 Premium Economy seats. The first flew on the 14th June - with the other eleven expected over the next few months.
The 787-9 fleet flies 38 Club Suites, 38 Premium Economy suites and 8 First Class suites.
On short haul routes - in its A320neo and A321neo fleets - expect new “navy blue” seats with increased pitch (31 inches from 29 inches). Business Class will still feature a row of three seats with the middle seat blocked off.
There's a new British Airways app and website expected this year too.
The big news is that BA will retrofit all its A380 aircraft with its new First Class suite. It is the only European carrier that flies a First Class between the USA and Europe.
There are 12 A380s in the British Airways fleet. Each aircraft has: First Class – 14 suites, Club World (Business Class) – 97 suites, World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) – 55 seats with the rest in World Traveller (economy).
