British Airways - upgrades & updates
British Airways, once globally renowned as “the world's favourite airline,” now faces fierce competition from industry leaders such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Etihad—airlines known for their revolutionary Qsuites and ultra-luxurious First Class amenities, including in-flight showers. In response, British Airways is making significant investments in its premium cabins and technology to reassert its status among discerning travelers.
The UK flag carrier recently began rolling out its reimagined Club Suite on the Boeing 787-8 fleet. A total of 12 Dreamliners are being upgraded, each featuring 31 Club Suites and 37 Premium Economy seats. The inaugural retrofitted aircraft entered service in mid-June, with the remainder scheduled to join the fleet by late 2025.
British Airways' 787-9 aircraft currently operate with 38 Club Suites, 38 Premium Economy seats, and 8 exclusive First Class suites, offering a refined experience on long-haul routes.
On short-haul European services, the airline’s A320neo and A321neo aircraft have been refreshed with new “navy blue” seating and an expanded seat pitch of 31 inches—up from the previous 29 inches. Club Europe (Business Class) continues to offer a 2-2 configuration, with the middle seat blocked for additional comfort and privacy.
British Airways is also enhancing digital engagement, with a newly redesigned app and website launching this year, aimed at delivering a seamless booking and travel management experience.
Perhaps most notably, British Airways is the only European airline still offering true First Class service between the USA and Europe on its flagship A380s. All 12 superjumbos are being refurbished to feature the latest First Class suites. Each A380 will showcase: 14 First Class suites, 97 Club World (Business Class) suites, 55 World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) seats, and the remainder in World Traveller (Economy).
