American Airlines unveils its Flagship Suite – spelling the end of First Class

American Airlines has announced that its "Flagship Suite’ will be introduced in 2024 - on arrival of its new Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleets. There will also a new Premium Economy cabin. Additionally, all existing long-haul Boeing 777-300ERs will receive a luxurious interior makeover and premium seating will expand by more than 45 per cent - this by 2026.

American Airlines is one of the few airlines in the US that boasts First Class – Flagship First – along with its Flagship Business. With the introduction of Flagship Suites, First Class will be phased out and Business Class passengers will enjoy the enhanced offering.

American Airlines plans to retrofit its fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs with refreshed interiors that will include 70 of the new Flagship Suites and 44 Premium Economy seats. The existing Airbus A321Ts will be revamped to align with the rest of the A321 fleet. These upgrades are not expected to complete until late 2025 to early 2026 but provide a tempting prospect for increased premium capacity and an enhanced customer experience on American Airlines’ long-haul international flights.
