This summer, AA is rolling out new amenity kits for all its Flagship First, Flagship Business and Premium Economy passengers. In an effort to “help keep memories of customers’ travels top of mind, even when customers aren’t flying at 35,000 feet in the air”, the airline has teamed up with two American boutique luxury goods companies - Shinola and D.S. & Durga.
Detroit-based Shinola crafts world-class watches and premium leather goods and have produced the amenity bags, while D.S. & Durga – from Brooklyn – are perfumers who have created lotions and balms – which are all wrapped in sustainable packaging.
In addition, Shinola has produced a limited-edition Mad Dog Desk Clock which features a dial from the original metal of American’s – now retired – fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft. These can be purchased with the AA logo and without the logo. Only 1,000 pieces have been made and every dial is unique. Later this summer, Shinola wall clocks will be featured in select Admirals Club lounges.
For those passengers who miss the chance to acquire a Mad Dog Desk Clock, AA hopes the new amenity kits will be repurposed post-flight for storing essentials and keepsakes.
The rollout for these kits has now begun and passengers flying between the United States and London Heathrow are the first recipients. AA’s other routes will benefit from the kits as the summer progresses.
