Air India has unveiled an all-new three-class configuration for its newly inducted A320neo aircraft. The revamped configuration includes Business Class, an all-new Premium Economy, and Economy cabins, designed for domestic and short-haul international routes.
The newly outfitted A320neo aircraft features 164 seats - 8 in Business Class and extra legroom Premium Economy. This marks the first introduction of Premium Economy cabins on Air India’s narrowbody aircraft.
All three cabin classes boast modern amenities including subtle mood lighting, spacious legroom, ergonomic seating, and advanced features including Portable Electronic Device (PED) holders and USB ports for charging devices.
Business Class Features: The new Business cabins include 40-inch ergonomic seats with a deep 7-inch recline, adjustable armrest, footrest, backrest, and multiple charging ports. The tray table, which includes a PED holder and is extendable, can be deployed at the push of a button.
Premium Economy Amenities: The all-new Premium Economy offers larger seats with superior upholstery, a four-way headrest, a 32-inch seat pitch with a 4-inch recline, and amenities such as a PED holder and USB charging port. Enhanced meal options, served in upgraded crockery and cutlery, promise a superior travel experience.
Over the next year, Air India plans to expand this three-class configuration across its entire narrowbody fleet. Existing aircraft are being progressively refitted, while new aircraft will be delivered with the updated interiors.
Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, stated, “The introduction of a three-class cabin to Air India’s narrowbody fleet and the commencement of interior refits are crucial steps in enhancing the flying experience. The upgrade of the narrowbody fleet, which operates on domestic and short-haul international networks, complements the upgraded widebody experience now available on our A350 fleet and new B777s, and on all other widebodies as they are refitted over the next two years. This comprehensive upgrade of Air India’s physical product is a vital component of transforming into a world-class airline.”
The seats in all three cabins, designed by Collins Aerospace, combine unique ergonomic contouring and a patented comfort system to enhance passenger comfort. They come equipped with literature pockets, charging ports, tray tables, and coat hooks. The airline's A320neo aircraft feature innovative mood lighting with specific illumination settings for take-off, landing, meal service, and even to celebrate India’s national days. This lighting is designed to enhance the overall in-flight experience, creating a relaxing environment.
