Air India has announced that it will be flying its new wide-body Airbus A350-900 aircraft on the Delhi-London Heathrow route starting from September 1st. The airline will operate two daily flights on this route.
The A350-900 will replace the current Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on 14 out of 17 weekly flights.
"The deployment of our flagship A350s and upgraded Boeing 777s with new cabin interiors to London Heathrow marks a significant milestone for Air India," said Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Air India. "This demonstrates our commitment to elevating the travel experience for our passengers to truly world-class standards, exceeding customer expectations as we continue to modernise our fleet."
The introduction of the new Airbus aircraft will result in 90% of all Air India's flights to London Heathrow being upgraded. In April 2024, Air India began deploying recently acquired Boeing 777-300ERs on its Mumbai-London Heathrow route and also reintroduced First Class on this route.
India's national airlines is also set to introduce Premium Economy class for the first time on the Delhi-London Heathrow route with the Airbus A350-900. The airline will offer a choice of 24 spacious seats arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration in a dedicated cabin.
"With our industry-leading cabin features on the A350, including a brand new Premium Economy experience and a host of other onboard enhancements being rolled out, we are confident that these daily flights between India and London Heathrow will soon become the preferred choice for travellers," Wilson said.
Air India's A350 flights will also boast new amenities for passengers, including new chinaware, tableware, glassware, bedding, and updated amenity kits for Business Class and Premium Economy class.
