Dear Mark,

Hope all is well. First of all, I want to apologize that I am reaching out to you through this channel. I wanted to draw your attention to a concern that I, along with other Diamond members have regarding your continued campaigns to give away Hilton Honor Gold and Diamond status.

As a businessman, I can understand that status match and status challenges are effective acquisition campaigns. In principle, neither I nor the fellow Diamonds I have spoken to have a principal problem with status challenges. What we do feel however, is that status is given with no quid pro quo and this is a big slap in the face of for us that spend $12,000 a year for our Diamond cards.

I think what we are asking for you to consider is fair:
1. Make sure that status is given with a quid pro quo e.g. a challenge and not just randomly
2. Make sure that the status is only awarded for a short period of time e.g. within the current year you need to reach milestones and extended for one year at a time
3. Make sure that your systems can distinguish between those who have challenged and those who have earned it the old fashioned way

I am coming up to my Lifetime Diamond this year. I have qualified 11 years straight, and I will close the $200,000 threshold probably before Easter. I am asking myself why I should continue to be loyal when I can much cheaper, and without the same effort, gain the same level. I have seen the consequences of the Diamond inflation: packed lounges, reduced benefits and limited upgrades. I don’t see the same across Marriott, SPG and Intercontinental Group. Let me know if you need any more details.

Best wishes,
Senator
