In 2010, Qantas released the revolutionary Q Bag Tag. Scanners in the Bag Drop area would detect the Tag and encode the details from the flight booking onto the intelligent Q chip embedded inside it. This then instructed the bag to be delivered to the correct destination. The “coaster” as it was dubbed, was bulky, and did not allow the luggage to be tracked. Oh, and it was only available on domestic flights.
Now, the Qantas Luggage Tag has arrived.
With a sleek. modern design, the Qantas Luggage Tag is linked via the Qantas app to the passenger's smartphone - and receives notificiations at all stages of the journey from check-in, to “in transit” and finally to delivery on the destination carousel.
Each of the new tags is colour-coded - red for Bronze (entry level) - Sliver, Gold, Platinum and finally black for “Chairman's Lounge Members”. The straps - also with different colours - state the passenger's tier membership level.
It seems that all Qantas passengers will be issued new tags, gratis, except entry level (Bronze) members - who can purchase their tag for AUD20 or 3,480 Qantas Points via the Qantas website.
