These innovative tags allowed Qantas’ Bag Drop technology to instantly recognise and encode your flight details onto a smart Q chip, ensuring your luggage reached its correct destination. However, the original “coaster” device was somewhat cumbersome, lacked real-time tracking, and was restricted to domestic routes.

Fast forward to today: Qantas has unveiled its state-of-the-art Luggage Tag.

This elegant and contemporary luggage tag seamlessly pairs with the Qantas app, connecting directly to your smartphone for a fully digital experience. Travellers now receive real-time updates at every stage — from bag drop and loading to arrival at the destination carousel — providing peace of mind and enhanced transparency throughout the journey. 

The new tags are distinctly colour-coded: red for Bronze members, silver for Silver, gold for Gold, platinum for Platinum, and an exclusive black version for Chairman's Lounge members. Each strap is also colour-matched and clearly displays your membership tier, adding a personalised touch. 

All Qantas frequent flyers above the entry-level Bronze tier will receive their new Luggage Tag complimentary. Bronze members can conveniently purchase their tag for AUD20 or redeem it for 3,480 Qantas Points via the official Qantas website.
