- La Fraschetta: Also situated in Trastevere, in Via San Francesco da Ripa 134. Good Roman food and Pizzas. I go there regularly and go for “pasta alle vongole” (pasta with clams) as well as the fried antipasti (cod etc). Pizzas are also very good as well as side dishes (spicy spinach/chicory)
- - Ristorante Matricianella: In Via del Leone 4, close to Via del Corso. Very typical roman dishes, very high quality food and wines. You can’t go wrong.
- - Le Mani in Pasta: Small little restaurant in the Trastevere district. Roman dishes, slightly sophisticated, good. Requires booking. Via dei Genovesi, 37 – tel: +39 06 581 6017
- - Roma Sparita: Situated in Trastevere, in Piazze di Santa Cecilia. Requires booking. If it’s a sunny day you should have lunch outside, it is situated in a small square. Very traditional Roman food. Try the “Cacio and Pepe” and the “Coda alla Vaccinara”.
- Pizzeria ai Marmi: Situated in Viale Trastevere 53. Traditional roman pizza, very thin and very light. This place is also very popular and does not require booking, although you might have to wait for 20 mins. Apart from pizzas you can try the fried cod and the suppli. The place is very simple and quite loud, don’t go here if you want to have some comfort!
- Baffetto: You will find this one in all the city guides. Known for the traditional thin Roman pizzas. If you go early you will skip queuing outside. Via del Governo Vecchio, 114. A few minutes walk from Piazza Navona.Da Sergio: In Vicolo delle Grotte 27, close to Campo dei Fiori. Very genuine Roman cuisine, really great lunch place! !
- “Pizza al taglio”: This is not a restaurant but is how we call the Roman pizza that you can buy everywhere. It is presented on long oven trays and is cut in square pieces and is found in many varieties. You will find this in almost all streets, but a few minutes from Campo Dei Fiori, in Via dei Chiavari, 34, you will find “Antico Forno Roscioli”. Try the pizza with tomato. Simple, plain, delicious! Just ask for the street if you can’t find it on the map.
Roman dishes: Pasta of course, such as Amatriciana. If you like cheese based pasta try the “Cacio e Pepe”, typical Roman dish. Some other specialties include fried artichokes in the Jewish area “carciofi fritti” or “alla giudea” – or the cow’s tail “coda alla vaccinara” in a rich tomato sauce.
A glass of wine: Enoteca Ferrara, nice wine bar in a nice lively surrounding that offers small snacks (tapas). Piazza Trilussa 41, in Trastevere
