InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel

InterContinental New York Barclay was originally constructed in 1926 as one of four railway hotels built as part of the Grand Central Terminal Expansion and even enjoyed its own platform in the basement for those guests arriving by private railcar. Opening to serve the affluent patrons flocking to New York, InterContinental New York Barclay enjoys a wonderfully central Park Avenue location in Manhattan, close to the Rockefeller Center, MoMa and the Empire State Building. Offering a classical Federalist style, with modern accents, there are 702 rooms including 31 suites spread across thirteen floors. Each comfortable abode features curated local artworks that pay homage to the property’s 1926 heritage with a Park Avenue residential feel and some even enjoying full wall murals. 

Room sizes start at 23 square metres for the Classic Rooms right up to around 372 square metres for the palatial Harold S Vanderbilt Penthouse which is fit for a king with an enormous furnished terrace with Grade A views of the iconic Chrysler Building. Part of the B Suite Collection which really are in a league of their own in terms of décor and style, the 316 square metre Presidential Suite is elegantly attired with luxurious fabrics; marble flooring; a rotunda entrance; coffered ceilings; floor to ceiling windows; fireplaces and even a baby grand piano. There is also a marble and gold ornate bathroom with a slipper tub, a private fitness room, a library office, a fully equipped kitchen and an entertainment centre – what more could you possibly need? For InterContinental Club members, there is access to a Club Lounge filled with newspapers and magazines, food presentations throughout the day and a private meeting room if required. For fitness, the hotel has a 24/7 state of the art Fitness Centre with a range of equipment, a Peloton Bike and free weights.
